They’ve just re-added them to menu. Backwards step, IMO.

I took my mum yesterday lunchtime. Not a seat to be had, inside or outside. We then went to The Boathouse which had a spectacularly stodgy and boring menu, in a pub 20% full the bar girl took my order and said "The food will be 40 mins OK?" Er, no are you taking the piss.....

Up to the Salt/Hop place, we both had 2 crayfish & shrimp sandwiches (£6 each), mum had pint of some IPA me a pint of Aspals cider, cost was about £22, so Leeds price pints. Having said that, they appeared a good selection of their own brews which were no doubt cheaper.

We sat outside so no lighting review. The sandwiches were flipping ace, packed out with seafood, good side chips and a salad, we'll go again next week.

I reckon choosing drinks more carefully would get the cost down to under £20, which for 2 pints and ace food that left us both full, is great value.

Just writing up my review of the Salt Bar & Kitchen place (aka tramshed etc). I think they've got it right.

Always thought the Boathouse could be fantastic, but it never is.

Abbomf has beaten you too it! Sounds a decent lunch spot.
Agree about the Boathouse though, with it's size and location it could be something really special with a bit of vision and effort.

At least The Terrace didn't charge you for bread!

Boathouse menu is lazy garbage, its a superb setting on a sunny day, but no matter what day l go it's never as busy as you'd expect it to be.

The Salt Bar, l would not have gone as I've noticed many mixed reviews since the revamp, but my mum is 82 and was getting pissed at me with walking around Saltaire.

Sounds like it worked out in the end. I don't often walk out of restaurants but I did last month. It was "lobster and oyster month" at the Brownlee Arms in Horsforth. Fresh deliveries every day etc... Booked a table for 4 on a Saturday night after confirming that the event was still running. Arrived about 8 ish and it was surprisingly quiet - maybe a third of the tables occupied. We were given the special seafood menu but also the regular one as well. We said it was ok we didn't need the regular one as we had come for the seafood, at which point she informed us that they only had 3 half lobsters, 4 oysters and no tiger prawns. A quick call to old favourite the Agora ( I know I go on about this place ) and they managed to find us a table for 9 o'clock. So goodbye Brownlee Arms. Felt sorry for the staff who were lovely and very apologetic.

I know, we were planning on sharing a dozen or so while making our minds up on what to have. Their loss I suppose. It was back to the Gin bar over the road and then a wander down to the Agora. Horforth seems to have more restaurants than ever at the moment, some obviously better than others. On my try soon list is a new Indian/Goan place in Headingley called De Baga. Menu looks great and initial reviews are good.

Here's a second hand report. Friends of mine visited Grand Cru last week. It was busy for midweek so that bodes well. He says the food was mostly excellent but the service slow and a bit shambolic. He also rated the quality of the fitting out, although not entirely to his taste. Came out at just under £100 a head but they like a drink! I think he said the tasting menu was £55

On a slightly Mama Mia related question, is the Mexican Cucina still going? I know it's not in Mama Mias old place on Manningham Lane anymore. I guess it's no longer around?

Hasn't been around for a decade or more, I used to go just for it being a curry alternative. Mamma Mias has been in the same place for 30+ years?

Haha time flies when you're getting on. I remember when Cucina started off in a tiny place on Oak Lane

Sunday dinner at the Brunswick in Leeds yesterday.

13 quid for excellent beef, and veg that hadn't been cooked to death. The accompanying shot of bloody mary a nice touch.

Not arsed about Yorkshire pudding but it was a beast.
