I've got into the habit of paying by card rather than cash lately, it started when the Aire bar became cashless and if the sun is out l start off there sat out the back. It's a really good friendly sports bar with a lot of south facing seating on the river.

Anyway......l was badly overcharged on Sat in another place, luckily l was taking notice for once and l got a refund on my card. Today l checked my account to see if it had gone through. It had but l had a shock at what l was paying for drinks in Leeds.

Waterlane Boathouse, 1 lager + 1 Rose wine, £12.90! We had 4 of those. Same again in the Scarborough, £10.90. 2 lagers in the Aire Bar was the cheapest 2 drinks of the day at £9.70.

I have noticed prices soaring in the centre but this is more than you'd pay in London!

I don't think that's completely true. I work behind the Wells in a 4 storey building with 600+ people working in it, Prudential will have 400+ and the new buidling which used to be TJ Hughes has maybe 100+ people in it every work day. 1000+ workers within a few hundred yards that could visit the Wells for lunch or shopping yet there's nothing in there to keep us going in. So many people use Tesco or Love Food deli for lunch instead of using the Wells because there's no where in there to go, unless you want a pizza. Massive shame and unfortunately they banked on people filling the bars maybe once or twice a week instead looking at the bigger picture which unless something changes it will only get worse. The only thing that will save it will be the Odeon opening.

We were in Ilkley last weekend and had a pint of ale and a G&T - £12.90!! Very easy to spend £100-150 in Leeds on a night out and that's without food.

I get it, in a way: 1 product done well & minimal overheads/waste.

However, the fact that a seasoned pro of that exact same grub is leaving sunbridge wells would have been a warning sign, I'd have thought.

Good luck to 'em, of course.

So I believe. They'll be doing a residency at Eyes Brewery and opening a bricks and mortar place in...

    Leeds.

But what are these office dwellers earning, average? I am not going to bleeding Tesco's for my lunch if a nicer alternative is on offer.
But if l am earning Bradford wages, Tesco's it'll have to be!

Same old story, IF the tunnels were in Leeds and Pizza Loco had charged 50% more, it would still have been rammed.

Was that in The Ticket Office?

From now on it'll be Spoons, Three Legs, The Angel (Sam Smiths) to pre load before more expensive Leeds!

That's my point, there isn't a decent alternative to either mentioned. Office dwellers are paying £3 a meal deal. The new pizza horsebox is trying to sell pizza's for £6 or £10. It's not sustainable for a lunch time for us office dwellers or a pizza place.

Who are these people eating out for dinner every day at work? What's wrong with packing up some sarnies? Quid a day, tops.

You make mine then. I like Crayfish and rocket on sourdough, preferably with President butter. £1.

But a pizza in Leeds is (generally) £9-£12 and you can't get a walk up seat most lunchtimes. Which goes back to city centre wages....

I used to work in Bradford centre early 90's before moving to Leeds, there was a big lunchtime scene. It's gone, along with most of the better paid white collar jobs, to Leeds.

As an aside Ciao Bella in Leeds does a pizza/pasta for £6.95 or £1 more with a glass of wine, cheaper to eat and drink there than to just drink at the Adelphi further along.

Whats the price of pizza in Leeds got to do with the cost of pizza in Sunbridge Wells? Us office dwellers may as well walk around to Pizza Pieces and get a slice rather than a 10" pizza from the new place.

It's not all gone to Leeds though has it. Granted a lot of the better paid jobs have but Leeds, like London is obviously going to attract a better paid job but there's still some decent companies within the city centre that pay decent wages so that workers can spend between £3-4 on a lunch time a 2/3/4 times a week. You talk about the foot fall in Bradford but if you see the foot fall around lunch time up and down Sunbridge Rd it's a fair size and could be a good catch it the product/cost is right. Love Food deli is rammed on a lunch time and they are charging between £3-4 per wrap. The market is there but luckily for Tesco and Love Food there are taking the lot.

The price of a pizza in Leeds, in a similar environment to Sunbridge Wells, speaks volumes about a centre's worth.

£3-£4 on a lunchtime? l was spending 5 x that in 1990! You can eat just as cheaply in Leeds centre as in Bradford's, but Bradford can't seem to get past "cheap".

I have to go in on Tuesday so will try Love Food and report back.
