Be interesting to see how that goes. I applaud any independent who goes for it but the pics of the interior don't thrill me. The menu is pretty big, looks a bit like they are not convinced they can pull off their fine dining tag so have stuck a pizza in there to cover all options. I do wish them the best of luck though ......Is Birkenshaw near enough Leeds

Agree with the pizza thing. Bit of a lazy safety net innit.

Seems like they have bottled the fine dining a little. It's a shame because Bradford desperately needs some quality independents so I wish them every success.

That's what I was getting at - this is purely lunch time food on the go, not an hour in Calico Jacks or the Shoulder of Mutton.

But that is what l was getting at, the lunch trade that Bradford needs has long gone. BTW The shoulder is a mucky hole, went last week.

Tried the Love Food place, bought a roasted vegetable panini and sat (depressed in front of a defunct pool) and ate it. It was very nice indeed, can't recall what it cost, maybe £3, it was great value, l'd have expected to pay £5 for the same in Leeds. If you had offered me £10 to be teleported away from the defunct pool to Leeds to sit eat it non- depressed, l'd have gone for that....

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186408-d4066449-Reviews-Shaan_Restaurant-Bradford_West_Yorkshire_England.html

Had a really poor curry here last winter, and for me even to recognise a bad curry is something.

Went today with a pal. We ordered in advance and when we arrived the cook was just finishing freshly making the chapatis, good sign!

I had asked for a prawn bhuna (a dry dish) but got a load of oily shrimps, fair enough there were a lot of them but l didn't order a load of oily shrimps. Pal had keema bhuna which he said was dreary and left a third+, as l did.

Side salad was fresh but the sauce but not mint, don't know what it was, looked like Coleman's seafood sauce and was cack.

Chapatis probably best I've ever had, pal agreed.

Interior dark with very subdued lighting, nice, clean place, staff great. But two goes, two poor meals so won't bother it again.

£15 summat. Which tbh pissed me off a bit because that is 8 pints in Spoons economics.

Who takes kids to a 'luxury, fine dining' restaurant?

Sort of parents who don't want their kids to grow up thinking a Spoons "241" is a "meal out"?

There's plenty of options in between, this isn't a binary decision.

As I've said before, I wish them every success, but I think they are falling between 2 stools a little. I think people looking for a true fine dining experience would be put off. If I were them....and I'm not....I think I would drop the fine dining pretensions. They can still be a top quality restaurant with excellent provenance and attract customers that way without the expectations "fine dining" promises.

    Anyone been yet?

I'll be interested to read your report. It's just a bit too far out of the way for me. I do have to say though that despite my earlier comments there was a picture of their pizza on tripadvisor and it looked very good!

Sampled the re-opened International on Sunday, 17.30 probably not the best time to go, lots of families with young kids so pretty noisy.
Nice decor and attentive staff, food adequate, prices seemed high but when bill came it seems naan and rice were included in cost of curry, just like the old days, 2 starters and 3 curries for £37.
If naan and rice was not charged by mistake, would have been £6.50 more.
