Would you not go to Kiplings because of the decor?

I don't think the food is/was that good at Bibis. I haven't been for years, maybe 10+ years and never even consider it when I'm going to Leeds.

Before I retired I used to go to a fair number of work outings to Bibi's. I always felt it was a place to be seen rather than for the quality of the food which was average and expensive. The last time I was in there Chris Moyles was there with a large and noisy entourage. We were there with a friend, and oddly some woman who was worse the wear for drink came up to ask my OH for his autograph as she thought he was Paul O'Grady - there is a passing resemblance (when not dressed as Lily Savage!) but realised her mistake as soon as he spoke to her. He got food poisoning from the mussels that night and we haven't been back since.

In the past, no, even though you've got to admit, the decor is well wonky. But now with B&B opening, yes, l'll be going there and that's what l meant in my earlier post.

Bibi's is all about decor & suited & booted staff, that's its USP compared to a shed load of competition.

Speaking of Italians I was pleasantly surprised by Gusto in Leeds centre. Bit of a last minute thing so couldn't get a booking at a lot of places. The food was decent, service very good and it's a nice place. Like I said, for what is now a growing chain I was very pleasantly surprised, and the prices were same as the Cookridge restaurant

Bit of advice please. Thinking of going for a beer & curry with family. Greengates seems to be a decent destination given where we all live.

So out of the choices which would you recommend and why?

New Line or Cracker Barrel for the best range/quality/price of beer?

Kiplings or Bhajis N Beer or Kebabeesh for a decent curry?

Not been in New Line yet, Cracker Barrel is great - decent beer and pretty cheap too. There's Bar Lusso across the road too is you fancy something a bit more upmarket :joy:

Could always meet in idle - Beerhouse and Idle Draper are really good for decent beers/gins.

I personally prefer Kiplings. Food is always very good and reasonably priced, decor (as stated before) isn't the best but it is what it is.

So what is it about the ‘decor’? Awful, gauche, knackered, mismatched? It sounds like the Cracker Barrel and possibly the New Line and Kiplings.

For me there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, it was brought up on the thread as a reason to not go or go somewhere else.

Its a very old school pub but the Albion does cracking beers and cheap as chips too.

Cracker barrel and New Line are what they are - small independent bars, nothing fancy but proper beers and prices to match. Enjoy.

I'm with Marshy on this. Cracker Barrel and Kiplings for me definitely. Also Dog and Gun just down the road toward Apperley Bridge.

The decor is not as bad as someone made out in Kiplings, but the currys are gorgeous

If you met in Idle, then I would say Idle Draper

Thanks @marshy77@marshy77 and @Idlebantam@Idlebantam. In the end we walked from the Railway at Calverley Bridge along the canal side to Apperley Bridge and up to the Cracker Barrel. As it was raining we did not go onto Idle, but had a couple of beers and then to Kiplings. A decent curry, with nice murals on the walls and clouds on the ceiling! Then back to Horsforth and a beer in the Old Kings Arms and Town Street.

Glad you enjoyed it. The decor bothers me that much that I didn't even know about the clouds on the ceiling :joy: more bothered about me curry.

Nice walk that, we do it regularly from Idle and back. Pit stop needed at the Railway.

I see Pizza Loco is moving out of Sunbridge Wells and into the new Eyes Brewery.

Anyone recommend a decent venue for a Sunday dinner for about 100 on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year?

Got to be Bradford area as that is where most of the guests live. Not sure on budget as just starting to look, but know it will not be cheap due to date

I went to a school reunion here a few years ago. http://www.baildonhall.co.uk/rooms.html Not sure about the quality of the food now, but the venue as a private hire is good, in a reasonable location.
