As Tuesday's match against Shrewsbury will be our 30th League game of the season, I thought I'd look at how we've done in blocks of 10 matches this season.
    • 1st 10 matches - won 2, drew 1, lost 7 = 7 points;
    • 2nd 10 matches - won 2, drew 1, lost 7 = 7 points;
    • 3rd 10 matches - won 4, drew 2, lost 3 = 14 points, with one match to play.
That's quite a startling improvement, and one we'll have to maintain if we are going to stay up.

We can't do any more than we are doing at the moment.Winning and scoring but not conceding.

We have to try and not fixate on the table,we've caught up on points but other teams in bottom 6 have been picking up wins and stopping us pulling clear like we want to.

If we keep winning,(maybe Barnsley might be a hic up) we will continue to bring clubs in bottom half of table into contention and we'll find there will be 8 or 10 clubs in danger and once we get in amongst them I think there will be 2 or 3 teams that will fall away at the bottom.

We're doing well it's just the true effect isn't that apparent yet but soon will be if we can keep this team together or replace anyone we lose with quality.

    Easy, tiger!

There's no way Scunthorpe are out of it based on back-to-back wins in late December/early January!

I believe any team from Burton (9th) on down could go down. The gap is so tight at this point, from 21st place to 9th there is only 8 points in it.

Likelihood is, at least two of the current bottom four will go down, but who we are we chasing?

    All of them.

Finishing in the top half is a very achievable aim; top six, not so much.

We should have built from the back, it defies all logic that we did not recruit a commanding back four, solid in the middle. The spine of the team needed attention along with pace on the wing, plus added height up front from an experienced target man with good hold up quality.Nothing achieved in January has really added measurable strength to the team and the perplexing thing is seemingly hap hazard recruitment. It is concerning when the only way out of this is through improved performance and consistency of a level above that we have shown with the present squad. We also need to settle on a system that suits the players we have and stop fanny'ing around with ploys that gift possession to the opposition so easily.

Over the course of the season, I agree, and more fool anyone who says otherwise.

Over the course of the last few months, I disagree entirely.

    https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=234&teamTabs=results

Look at the results - note how absolutely atrocious results were prior to November 17, then compare to the results since.

6 wins, 4 draws, 5 defeats (excluding cups - add three draws if you want to include them).

    It's not relegation form.

I think there are a lot of fans suffering relegation zone fatigue - but including our first 17 games when we were an absolute mess isn't fair given how well Hopkin has turned our form around.

That's how long it took to turn it round; it's been turned round no matter how fed up people are, and no matter the manner of a couple of defeats.

I very rarely give up on our team until it has more or less happened. I think we will pick up points from the top sides, they will not be parking the bus for a start, they will fancy their chances and that might just play into our hands. It depends how we approach these games atm fans on here have written them off mainly due to the stats against the top teams, but the end of the season battle always throws up surprises. If we go int them with a nothing to lose attitude and a bit more adventurous we just might pick up points.

Plus it is still wide open, with a lot of teams looking over their shoulders, this season it is going to the wire. I am not full of confidence we can do it, but we have as much chance of beating the drop as some of those around us.

We can pick faults with the players, the manager, tactics and formation, but let’s not lose sight of the real culprit here. Our club has been sacrificed on the alter of the ‘Rahic project’ When we pick over the season, we need to remember what he has done to our club, and it started the minute he walked in the door.

I believe the general feeling of many is that our season is slowly dying before our eyes and will ultimatly finish with Bradford City back in the kahzi league.

I honestly believe Rahic and his antics have knocked the stuffing out of many fellow fans, and the way our team have capitulated since that great run in December has not helped.
Will Stefan keep putting finances into our club to give the next manager a fighting chance to either challenge for promotion our keep us in league one if we have not already been relegated this season.
Under our last owners I believe even though there were a few dissenters on here and C&B we knew Julian & Mark would not put our club into a position where we couldn't manage the deficit.
No body knows what financial damage Rahic has done to our club, we can only hope Stefan stays around long enough to get us back to something like the club it was before they purchased.

Maybe a bit eager on Scunthorpe but it’s 3 wins in a row in league is it now? And signing a good set of players who McCall wants

I think they will be safe.

Payne goes, we get an injury or two and any replacements don't hit the ground running and we are right back in the shit.

The recent upturn is great, and I'm confident we can survive, but a lot of people are getting ahead of themselves. Thankfully I don't think Hopkin et al are quite as naive.

Even if we stay up, we’re not going to be comfortable until May - or somewhere near.

A month ago, we looked gone. Not just in terms of league position, but in terms of spirit, quality and desire.

Now, we have a real chance. We’ve brought ourselves into touch, not just with 20th place, but with a the clutch of clubs from about 15th place down. When you throw into the mix the fact that Rahic has gone, there isn’t one of us that wouldn’t have bitten your hand off to take this position at the beginning of December.

We shouldn’t place too much emphasis on others - it’s in our gift to stay up. Something like mid table form will be very much good enough between now and May, and even if Payne goes I believe we’ve got that about us. Hopkin knows his stuff, the club is united again, we’ve got a bit of financial backing to strengthen further this month. If we keep our heads we’ll be fine.

The last time I recall that being said ................... Chesterfield sent us down to Lge 2, a few weeks later .........

TIME is quickly running out. What City need right now is 100% in effort and performances, coupled with positive results.
Saturdays showing was, and always will be unacceptable.

Scunthorpe had to. They have several injuries to contend with. We do too - the difference is that our first team is performing. It’s only the 6th January. People need to assess our window when it closes.

I’d that we’ll have a new face or two when we face Barnsley.

At this moment in time we are not going backwards we are making steady progress and have almost gained parity points wise with those teams we need to pull back. A pattern is developing and belief within the squad is enabling better personal performance enhanced by increased fitness levels and a clear understanding of structured responsibility. Don't see anything negative at all, in fact more than ever, optimism, that we will remain in this division.

Play like we did on Saturday too many more times, and we will already be relegated by then

To think, some on here didnt want us to stuff Scunny at Christmas, for fear of upsetting McCall

I thought Walsall missed a couple of sitters in the first half which had a large bearing on the result. When i watch the games i'm trying to pick up on what we do well and where we are weak. A lot of our problems stem from before Hopkin got here and are so fundamental in success or failure that Hopkins task is somewhat impossible. I also try to look at it from a neutral point of view and although we have talented individuals, the problem is pretty much all of them are midfielders. Our defence and attack for me are bottom four standard and this cannot be counterbalanced by what looks like a top half/playoff potential midfield.

It takes time to build a squad with the required allround technical ability and the right character, i fear Hopkin will have his first real opportunity to do this in league 2. It's not over till the fat lady sings but those fundamental problems will take way longer than this season to rectify.

Can we sack Abbott and give Rahic the boot again, just to boost morale?!?
