    We must win our home games as a minimum. However after the next couple we have some tough home games to come.

    Very true but when you totally surrender at home to Southend and don't even bother against Barnsley then it gets increasingly difficult to pick up points.

    The problem for me was at Barnsley when we had momentum and despite a fairly decent 20 minutes we never looked like we were going to score, not concede or even have a go for at least a point. That sends the wrong message to the fans and even more so to the players.

    Even if you think you're going to get beat at least put up a fight. I've never believed this season that we would go down, I still think we have even to stay up but after watching the last 2 games I'm starting to worry and the transfer window hasn't given me any belief or hope (so far) that we have improved the squad.

    I refuse point blank to panic about relegation. There is still half season left, we can do this, plus other teams around us are also struggling. If we get to March and we are still in the bottom four, then I will resign myself to the drop:)

    Absolutely. If we were 4 points off the play offs at this point , would everyone be saying it was an insurmountable task and resigning themselves to missing out?

    Was chuckling at this when I saw they’d taken the lead but thankfully Barnsley resumed normality by FT!!

    Not a bad set of results in the end today though with Rochdale and Plymouth losing.

    Looks like Scunny are staying up though.

    Wimbledon might have a bit more fight in them after tonight. Great result for them and could spur them on in the league.

    Also means that some players will be thinking about the cup.
    Especially if they get a big club in the next round.

    Didn’t City lose at Yeovil after beating Chelsea? IIRC we rarely played well after a good cup result.

    No, we lost the week before, it was awful and made me decide not to go to Stamford bridge.

    WTF that has to rank as one of your worst decisions with regards watching Bradford City :(, I think most of us would have been happy to see City score at Stamford bridge but even if we'd been spanked Chelsea was always a tie I wanted to attend ;).

    That is the beauty of Cup games - particularly the F A C. :)

    EACH and EVERY player will have a different mindset for Cup games ............... Will HE be the hero ??

    I often wonder about Jon Stead ................ Did he ever dream he would one day rule the roost at the Bridge ? That performance (Steads) will live forever with me. He lifted the whole of BCAFC on that day - Directors, players and supporters alike.

    But back to the 'bread and butter' of League games - The intensity seems to disappear, and thoughts are often elsewhere.

    I still think I’ve seen enough in games to prove that we can pick up enough points to stay up. We just need a couple of fresh faces to add extra competition and backup for the starting XI.

    We can score goals and we have good energy across the pitch to put teams under pressure and force mistakes. We are capable of putting a good run of form together, we just need to do it over the next few weeks. Hopefully with Shrewsbury and Wimbledon still in the FA cup, they will take their eye off the league.

    As Tuesday's match against Shrewsbury will be our 30th League game of the season, I thought I'd look at how we've done in blocks of 10 matches this season.
    • 1st 10 matches - won 2, drew 1, lost 7 = 7 points;
    • 2nd 10 matches - won 2, drew 1, lost 7 = 7 points;
    • 3rd 10 matches - won 4, drew 2, lost 3 = 14 points, with one match to play.
    That's quite a startling improvement, and one we'll have to maintain if we are going to stay up.

    Last 10 games, not quite the 9 forementioned by SB. If we could replicate the last 10 games, we would go into our last 7 games needing 10/11 points. It's going to the wire I'm sure, that win against Wimbledon in the Premiership days to stay up.... Surely not nearly 19 years to the day?

    Fixtures for tonight;

    Bristol Rovers vs peterborugh - change of manager will have hopefully come at the right time for us here and peterborugh pick up some form.

    Gillingham vs Accrington. - would expect Gillingham to get something here tonight.

    Oxford vs Barnsley. - Barnsley in good form and hopefully continues here.

    Ours is must win at home to Shrewsbury but we do have a good record against sides in the bottom 8 or so.

    I agree but a little help from other clubs would not go amiss,
    Gillingham V Accrington draw
    Bristol Rovers V Posh away win
    Oxford V Barnsley away win
    Bradford City V Shrewsbury crossed fingers.gif

    Other than when we play the other bottom half clubs, I'm not particularly concerned about their results. Our task is to get to 54 points irrespective of what the others do. That's all we can control. And as of today, that means getting 26 pts from 17 games which is a smidgeon over 1.5 pts per game. In many seasons, that sort of performance over a season would get us into the play-offs! And as of today, I don't regard our squad as play-off contenders. Does anybody really believe we currently have a squad which should be challenging for the play-offs?

    There's a lot still to be done.
