Rose has every right to complain about the racism directed at him and other players. He also has the right to highlight the ineffective way the authorities are dealing with the problem. However, his comment about how much he spends on a night out in London was uncalled for in my view. It highlights how out of touch top footballers are with the ordinary fans who would never be in a position to spend that kind of money.

I am also not sure his comment about ‘can’t wait to retire’ was in order either. He is obviously a very rich man, and would be in a position to retire now, and move onto what he intends to do for the rest of his working life. Once again total disregard for the ordinary supporter, who will work until their 70 and still have earned nowhere near what he has earned. When I had enough of my career, I retired as soon as I could losing money in the process, because I couldn’t stand it anymore, I had worked since I was 15, and retired at 65.

I deplore racism at all levels, however it doesn’t give you the right to show open disregard for other disadvantaged groups. It may be unstandable given his emotions, and the football authorities need to deal with it. Furthermore, unless a child from 0-5 has been shown tolerance and a full acceptance of difference it is very difficult to turn it around beyond that age. Just my view of course.

Really balanced. In these discussions people seem to leap to extremes on either side of the argument. I agree with all this but it also grates me when people deny that racism is a problem. Just look at social media. I also think a lot of people dismiss these matters too easily by using the tired old 'pc brigade gone mad / cant say anything these days etc' I'm not sure a lot of people do enough to put themselves in the shoes of black people. Having said that although I agree with Danny Rose I also take issue with the above.

On saturday V Donny a chorus of "Gypo" went up from the upper Kop I think aimed at their striker who Paudie had in his back pocket.
Can't see any outrage in the media about this at all. Clearly a racist chant.

The Equality Act 2010 defines Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers as ethnic groups, meaning they're legally protected against race discrimination. Legally, race discrimination is defined as unfair treatment because of one of the following things: colour, nationality, national origin or ethnic origin.

If he moaned about it he shouldn't. Should just get on with it and stop being a whiny little bitch.

Probably sexist too. All in all it's a pretty despicable thing to say.

I googled it too but it's still not a race if you read further down.

Not sure what my point is though :joy::joy:

Thirty years ago I went out with a black, Muslim girl (French/Algerian). In two years of dating I don't remember a single incident of racism. Not one. Not when going on a night out. Not in getting a job. Not in our social circle. Not with my relatives. Maybe things have regressed since then or maybe I have just been incredibly lucky.

Now that would make for an interesting season in L2 and there'd definitely be no racist chants going on for sure and if anyone was foolish enough ZZ would sort it.

I like Raheem Sterling's statement yesterday that he would be against walking off the pitch if he heard racist chants. He states that the racists would then have won. Like I posted earlier in this thread, go out and perform well and score and ram it down their throats that way

@SimonW@SimonW sounds like a schoolchild having a petulant fit. It’s threads like this why TCA, as the longest running City forum is a superior experience.

Sometimes it isn't easy getting a grip if you're continually abused, and that's what this is. It's a form of bullying that can and does have serious consequences.
Some people take their own life when they feel nobody is listening, whether rich or poor, black or white, gay or straight, fat or thin.

Getting a grip for them is ending it all.

Not all are able to deal with it unfortunately.

It all stinks of desperation to find a reason to ridicule
someone.Basically people with different coloured skin
have roots from a different climate in the world. They insult
someone for the colour of their skin and then go on
holiday to get a sun tan! You really can't understand shhhh
    like that!

Danny Rose has been honest about his mental health challenges and that is very commendable. It makes it easier for others who might not be as privileged to understand they are not alone.

Alas, in a high profile profession like football, there will always 'banter', which will range from the witty to the downright offensive.

In my experience the amount of racist chanting at UK football matches seems to be almost zero. I can't actually remembering hearing it at City for many years although I'm sure it certain sections of the ground it may happen. If I did hear it I wouldn't hesitate to report it.

Ona lighter note is being called a 'northern bast**d, or Yorkshire c**t a hate crime?
