... and you’re allowed to swear!

 

We have a national widescale problem of knife crime unprecented in my life time, violent crime is on the increase. Are we really that surprised that with the a large percentage of the populous being as thick as f*ck that they resort to name calling because thats what the majority of racial, homophobic hate crimes are based on. This is where i say you won't stop it, most of the offenders are just too damn thick to even think for themselves, let alone think about what comes out their mouths. You can try and educate or punish these people, won't make any difference. I was listening to a discussion on the radio with the kick it out campaign, they were saying they needed more money. To do what? stick more t-shirts on players? Yeah right.
Want to try and deal with it? Take the lead from Raheem Sterling. The lad seems to talk a hell of a lot of sense on the matter.

 

John Barnes speaks so much sense on the issues of Racial abuse, far more than people like Garth Crooks who'd find racial issues in a box of Frosties !

Excellent post. I too take my hat off to Sterling. His little celebration when scoring in Montenegro was the perfect way to deal with the racist idiots

 

Were you not a member on C&B it was a regular occurrence.

 

Not sure his celebration was really the best thing in that situation. It would have been better maybe if he hadn't acknowledge them. However his comments about saying teams shouldn't walk off is the right attitude. As I've said before the only way you improve the situation in countries like Montenegro is to continue to expose them to other races, something they just don't get in normal life. The more people are used to something the more normal it seems and part of what drives racism gets lessened.

It's why we see less hatred to LGBTQ+ communities in the UK these days as they aren't now hiding in the shadows, we see them in our normal lives, we see them on tv, we see them in movies etc etc

I am alarmed that somebody has felt the need to do that. I do wish ppl would start to debate racism in a mature and responsible manner. As I have already stated, the ability to change ppl’s thinking and therefore behaviour is limited. The type of education that would make a difference cannot be achieved by attending a anti racism course that lasts for a couple of hours.

The older generation like myself were brought up in the age of television programmes like love thy Neighbours and the Black and white minstrel show. And racist and derogatory terms were common place changing thinking is hard places like Montenegro are at about that time in thinking.

 

Surprised Montenegro hasn't changed its name yet.
