I best captain in recent times in Jones is what the club needed. Drive, passion, determination - This is what we certainly need now on display every week and that's why I would make him captain.

Yeah, same mate. I will back his decision but for me I don't think it should be ROD. I want to see an outfielder as captain.

 

That could apply to plenty of the squad though but last year has gone, its a new manager and a clean slate for everyone.

If ROD performs the best in pre season then he should absolutely be selected for the Exeter game.

For clarity though I'm not suggesting that ROD should be Captain. I just didn't agree with the post that he absolutely should be counted out.

 

Selected, yes. Captain, absolutely not. The captain should personify the manager on the field and a keeper isn't involved in the game enough to do that.

 

Yet more that once a goalkeeper has captained his country to a world cup win?

If that can happen I'm sure it's more than adequate for league two.

 

Personally I think keeper is wrong for the Captain position anyway , but if last seasons league form is a guide, he cannot command his defence, let alone the team. I’m only basing it on form, as opposed to liking the chap or not. Something went seriously wrong last season, it was there for all to see. Maybe an injury , maybe something we know nothing about, but an average L2 keeper doesn’t stop leaving his line for crosses in the six yard box overnight, without reason?

was probably a Adams signing even in January imo - knows him from Plymouth.

i never want my GK as captain. CB or Cm please if they are the right type. Don’t like CFs on it personally.

Yeah I'm of the opinion ROD , can't be made captain when he isn't certain of even being first choice keeper. That needs addressing before any other decision regarding captaincy can be made

 

He will pick an outfield player as Captain and they key element will be a player who would be “ one of the first on the team sheet” thus likely to play most games going forward.

You got the two candidates for me. Either one tbh!

 

Canavan would be my choice. He looks a real leader.

 

True but for the big clubs a defender who can bring it out and is comfortable on the ball is a must, and arguably more important than defending it seems

 

That can be the only possible reason that David Luiz is a professional footballer!

 

Who is to say he’s first choice defender.Pointless making someone captain if they aren’t playing most games?
