Pre season

Friendlies by their very nature are just glorified training sessions and as such little can be taken from them in terms of results, there are too many circumstances such as other teams line ups and what benefits they are looking at from the friendly.
But its certainly pleasing to see us not getting shafted by the likes of BPA or Harrogate like we had a year or two back or a list of trialists longer than the queue for Chelsea tickets.
A winning mentality breeds a successful team.

I’m sure this has already been mentioned, but does anyone think we’ve got too many friendlies? Adams seems to think so - reading between the lines I don’t think he’s overly happy with the number of games…

Bradford Park Avenue
Eccleshill (called off)
Doncaster
Guiseley
Brighouse
Blackburn
Accrington.

Even with the Eccleshill postponement I think we could have done with one or two less games.

 

I’d be surprised if the first team squad featured against Brighouse, we’d get more use just playing a 60 minute training game against two sides of the squad.

 

Unless I missed a call off, don’t we play Chesterfield or is Accy a sub?

 

Yes that is a good one but that doesn't ryme with Fordy doing something "pay to view ".

I saw that he said earlier that he was surprised we were playing a league one team "so early in pre-season"

 

Has he been ever Captain during his times with Adamd's I believe Sam Lavelle was his Captain at Morecambe.

Good points there mate. For me Fordy is part right (ouch! that hurt). The friendlies are partly about fitness in match environment. It also gives Adams chance to try out young lads like Staunton, a player who he doesn't know that well in a different position to see how he handles it. Also I should imagine Adams is the sort of manager who expects players attitudes to be spot on, even in friendlies against "Micky Mouse teams, so the friendlies give him chance to gauge the attitudes of players he maybe doesn't know so well.

No, but we all know that Adam loves him and he will be Adams ears with the lads.

He has the on the pitch leadership qualities this club needs.

He will be one of the 1st names on the team sheet every week if fit.

Makes sense to me.

 

All depends on who he feel will start no matter what then. Difficult choice but think we all agree it can't be ROD again.

 

If i was a big club id take Staunton everytime over Watt
