Just got back from an enjoyable afternoon don’t know who there two central defenders were but they were massive and a great workout for Cook and later Angol Eisa was the pick but it was a good run out for all on a hot afternoon it was great to be back at VP after all this time

The posters are only commenting on like for like performances against BPA and the noticeable improvements we made, be it stronger starting 11, fitness, formation, pressing or otherwise. No one is getting carried away. We’ve played 1 friendly and that’s all we have to go on. Are you suggesting we say nothing until the 11th game of the season? We all saw the writing on the wall when Collins was in charge with the chaotic preseason preparations, last minute cancellations of matches, poor results, poor fitness, trialists etc. That carried through into the season and we ended up the worst team in the league by some distance. Setting your stall out early and start as you mean to go on is a good mantra to follow. As I say, no one will get carried away, we’ve been here too many times but it’s a good start to preseason, long may it continue.

Adams strikes me as a man that will be fuming inside at any loss, regardless of whether it is a game that matters or not. I for one, really like that about him.

Didn't we lose to Harrogate 5-0 a few seasons ago? I think that was a great indication that we were totally unprepared. At least winning 5-0 gets us on the front foot, and highlights that some things are coming together from the off - fitness, understanding what the manager wants, confidence, players reading each others game. I'd say a 5-0 win with a load of triallists and fringe players is unimportant, but a win with the nucleus of first team players playing, is a good sign.

If you were a proper football manager, you'd be looking closely at every single thing the players were showing in the friendlies, not just fitness. You have a very reductive idea of what friendly matches are for. A new manager is looking for different skills and abilities from players, a reading of the game, that will help towards achieving what your plans as a manager are for the season ahead. It's very 1980s to think that friendly matches are just to get players fit. Fordy, football has moved on mate. Get with the new!

Boom! Songo'o crunches Rowe to win a challenge on halfway. The Donny winger certainly felt that

Sounds like something we've been missing.

You aren’t naive enough to realise he might just be spinning there right?

What else would he say ? We were crap, we lost but it doesn’t matter ?

We all know , yourself included close season is of course to get players fit, to get used to the managers way of playing and in comers gelling with the existing squad, of course it is.

But to suggest it’s ok if we get arsed 5-0 every game preseason, it’s somehow ok because at least they are fit.?

It’s a balance, you know and I know.

2 things. Focusing on the the sun cream in Bradford? There's a novelty ( for context I was there last 2 weeks of June, i think it reached 70 twice). But more importantly, the Stephen Darby poster, what a comment. "I wasn't a world beater. I just grafted my bollocks off, from the first minute to the last." Not sure anything else needs adding.

You can only beat the team that is put in front of you and there will be much sterner tests to come.
What i will say is that we look much better prepared for the coming season, than we have done in years. With maybe a few more tweeks to come.

And that’s what people are saying the fitness looks better than some previous early pre seasons. Of course everybody knows that beating PA doesn’t give us any clue to how we will do this season

Look, the results in pre-season don't really matter as much as the workout but they do have a bearing on what follows. Losing 7.2 to Harrogate Town or winning 5 zip at BPA. I know which I take. Doesn't mean we are going to storm the league, but it tells us a lot about professionalism, fitness, team spirit etc.

It's a solid start to pre-season and we couldn't ask for more.

Songo'o for captain for me I do like a central midfielder as captain. Surely not keeper again

Was alright, don't they were much cop, hardly what you call a league one outfit, most the team were barely out of nappies. I'd struggle to convince myself they were a step up from avenue if I'm honest.

Never tested at all really, if Oteh was in trial for them I didn't recognise him.

Strolled through it, missed some good chances again early doors which we'd need to take when the season starts.

Cook looks bang at it target man wise, i just hope we can start to get more men around him and in the box when he wins those headers or lays the ball off.

Eisa and Gillead will be a handful, I think they will be our wide starters as both have a good defensive ethic too.

Sutton played full 90 and never stopped, no watt again, I have a feeling someone else was missing at DM from Tuesday but I can't work out who. Staunton had some lovely touches in there.

Defence wise, not tested. None did anything wrong, ridehalgh could do with being a bit more composed on the ball. He seems very heavy footed.

Keepers seem to have been instructed to do away with the short kick offs, it was all going long from dead balls which I don't mind personally.

Canavan gobby with the officials, instructive to team mates, I think will end up captain

I have suggested before OD is the clubs union rep and apparently represented the club well in other areas he should keep the club captaincy and a new team captain appointed

You mean like the season we got beat 7-2 by Harrogate in pre season and were subsequently relegated? Of course results are important, not in a points sense but it means the strategies you are using are working.
