    Dinosaur land Fordy. It's never just about fitness. The modern manager has the opportunity in friendlies to look closely at how players respond to situations and react to the game plans you've given them. The fitness should already be a given before the friendlies come along. What he's looking for is which players can start to deliver his game plan. And that's what the friendlies do. Honestly Fordy, your insistence that pre season is just about getting players fit is so unbelievably old school. This is not the way it is anymore!

    Friendlies by their very nature are just glorified training sessions and as such little can be taken from them in terms of results, there are too many circumstances such as other teams line ups and what benefits they are looking at from the friendly.
    But its certainly pleasing to see us not getting shafted by the likes of BPA or Harrogate like we had a year or two back or a list of trialists longer than the queue for Chelsea tickets.
    A winning mentality breeds a successful team.

    You could be right Monks, but only as Club Captain, which is always somewhat as a figurehead for younger players to look up to and be a mentor, additionally representing the club at functions etc.

    As far as playing Captain…….He shouldn’t be playing on last years form….it’s that simple.

    In the grand scheme of things, no they don't, but instilling a winning mentality does matter, and clearly from Adams answer to the question 'what is the most pleasing thing for you about today's result', he gets that.

    I seem to remember there have been quite a few times when you have been on your high horse about how important it is for the players to be going out on the pitch wanting to win every game so I would have though you of all people would be pleased with this development.

    I thought Canavan looked captain material last year. Would be surprised if he doesn’t get it.

    was probably a Adams signing even in January imo - knows him from Plymouth.

    i never want my GK as captain. CB or Cm please if they are the right type. Don’t like CFs on it personally.

    Actually results DO matter.Shows where we we are at that moment in time.(Win lose or draw) Football is all about results.Under Adams it's mainly about breeding a win mentality. No game friendly or not lacks significance to coaches.

    It’ll be for counters, how many times do you see in football the attackers outnumber the defenders on a counter and they pick the wrong option? It’s infuriating to see as a fan.
