Glad to hear Pointon did well again last night, I didn’t see the game but against Bury he had very quick feet, close ball control and a quick speed of thought. Something not that common in the lower leagues. Hope to see more of the lad, hope he continues to impress.

 

He featured in the England U20 team in the World Cup finals in Argentina in May. This suggests to me that he is a quality player.

 

I get what you're saying Park but before MH's arrival I was equally frustrated at us just hoofing it up the pitch to Cookie for a knock down to no one and the ball almost immediately coming back into our final third.
MH wants us to play a certain way and I think can't see him changing his approach anytime soon.
What we need to get better at is moving the ball quicker up the pitch. The frustration is we stop to often before the half way line and go backwards, slowing the game down, allowing the opposition time to regroup and pick the ball off us.
For me Halliday was the worst offender for this last season. He seemed to get a nose bleed if he took it over the half way line and was always looking for the square ball.

 

Yes Pointon seemed to have plenty of confidence for a young lad. As long has he doesn’t have it knocked out of him he should do alright

 

That is the thing, we need to get it forward faster, it's one of the reasons for getting ourselves into the position of having no other option but to play it back, we need better movement from our forward players.

 

Hope you are right. It gets so frustrating that every year we are told how good our youngsters are, only for them then to disappear.

 

I agree they seem to get so far then disappear Staunton for instance

 

Looks like there was a decent following in Spain.

 

So despite the knockers it was a success

 

That was a very decent Getafe team that started last night.

7 or 8 of them were regular starters last season and 2 were new additions. Keeper was their number 1, captain at CB started and Borja who got the 1st goal is ex Madrid and Roma.

 

Look at it the other way round...

It was a pre-season friendly, against a high level of opposition, the ideal time to practice playing out from the back and passing the ball around. We can learn a lot more from trying it against a higher level of opposition.

Those that went must have thought so, it will be interesting to get anyone who did travels opinion, the one thing I thought was poor was our fans being behind the goal with a fence in front of them, or should I say that's how it looked on the stream.

 

No you are getting him mixed up with Foulds . Halliday had a few assists and crosses that led to goals and was one of the most consistent forward playing defenders

You need to watch the games a bit more closely if you're struggling to see how the 3 in midfield have been settng up. I think you do see it though, you're just being stubborn.

And yes, Gillead probably will be in the 18. I'd probably pick him myself to be in the squad but I'm hoping Odesebe and Pointon push him even further down the pecking order.

He had a header on the far post at Bury. He completely either misread the flight or bottled in and got lucky as the ball skidded away from the striker and just curled wide.

If that's a sign of things to come I can see why MK Dons fans picked that as a weakness but I can also see that the other side of his game could more than make up for it and as his confidence grows perhaps he learns to deal with that type of situation better.
