He almost certainly covered the loss the club made in 2018/19 created largely by his mate by making a short term loan to the club. Similarly, his loan was repaid (with some left over!) when the club made an even bigger profit the following year from the McBurnie deal.

That certainly doesn't make him a saviour in my book!

He now has a business coming out of Covid which is at least breaking even given how the salary cap has forced down players demands and we've increased ST prices. More worryingly is that Sparks has already referred to this year's playing budget having been reduced which suggests to me that Rupp is content for the club to tick over financially and we shouldn't expect Rupp to be using his own money to finance a promotion push in the near future.

I thought the salary cap had gone, but the limit on the number of Senior Players remained?

Not sure Rahic was his ‘mate’, rather someone introduced through their shared Banker. The failure of due diligence on the part of Rupp and/or his accountants in checking out Rahic, was the epic fail.

We don’t need to ask where it went we know. John dewhirst I think it was showed us all from the accounts where it went. Straight back to Rupp. Which other football clubs fans would sit back and watch an owner who has no interest in the club use it as part of his portfolio? He needs to go. You’ve proved my point in all of your post. We make excuses for him not spending because he has no interest at all. And people still say “where would we be without him?” Well I ask could it get any worse? We’ve dropped around 30 league positions, have zero sellable assets, still no own ground or training ground etc. The list goes on and on and nothing changes

The salary cap worked in the sense that it has forced down players' wages particularly in the two bottom leagues.

Despite what the PFA has said, the salary cap in lower league football hasn't gone away. The fixed amount in our div of £1.5m has gone but has been replaced by the 'old' salary cap (warts and all) which was related to turnover.

If Sparks had been honest and stated this during the season ticket push then I feel the criticism would have been much less.

As it stands, as a Season Ticket holder, I feel like I've been completely misled about our true position and I'm sure the feeling is shared by many of our supporter base.

The overriding point then being one of mistrust and from that all the negativity projected at the club and the eventual loss of future support.

And the longer we leave it, the more we stand still which effectively will only push us backwards.

Totally agree. Didnt the Ifollow (away) income cover a lot of the playing bill and we had 9,000 + season tickets on top. I reckon that, tied to furloughing staff and having very little matchday costs etc, actually made us better off in the pandemic,

Well @Keefly Bantam@Keefly Bantam is just happy to have a club to support and the only problem he has in life is finding gloves to fit his hands with 6 fingers

Because football is a business and there is no obligation on the owner to put extra money in.

Football is a business that is correct but mostly a loss making business.

If you are looking to make money from it then you need to spend.

Yep totally agree, and I'm with you on your points. Just highlighting that Rupp is never going to look at any windfall from a sell on/transfer and put it towards growing the club. He's just happy turning red numbers into black.
As pointed out - Sparks needs to also understand this. What exactly do they talk about when they have a board meeting? Sparks coming out all gung ho at the beginning of the season, saying we're going up in 2022 highlights the fact that those two are on a completely different page. Sparks sees the black numbers and thinks we've got money to buy promotion winning players, whereas Rupp sees black numbers that the business is "running well" and wants to keep it that way. All that happens, is that us as supporters see has no interest in progression, and us as supporters see that our CEO is spouting bs to sell season tickets and is out of touch with what is really going on.

I think Sparks said we were about £1m plus down during the pandemic when he was first on McAnthony's podcast.

Edit - just listened back £3m in lost revenue according to Sparks.

As bullseye's Jim Bowen use to say :

    'That's the gamble'

    He also said

Indeed and, with the exception of the Rhodes family (and I am still unsure what their overall position is with the dividends etc), no-one in recent memory has had any inclination to put their own money into the club, and because of the aftermath of the Richmond/Rhodes years we no longer have any assets to use as collateral if someone was willing to borrow to invest.

Maybe Rhodes and his style killed off any thought of people wanting to spend money.

When finances become more important that football the club will always struggle.

Rhodes set this club back 10-20 years. Account style operation in football never works.
