So according to Adams in the local rag today, we won't be dipping into the free agent market as the "Budget is done" as per the headline.

I thought throughout late summer and up to Angol's injury we had money put aside for an attacking, goalscoring midfielder? I'm gonna take some convincing that the money assigned for whom ever that may have been as gone on Robinson.

So question is, were the goalposts moved ?

No worries Mr Adams is famed for getting teams promoted with little or no budget
Biggest reason he was given the job in my opinion
Even he will struggle to get this lot top half never mind promotion
If the budget has gone does that mean no January signings
Sounds like it's going to be a long long season

What 'Budget is done' headline are you referring to? I couldn't find such a headline on the T&A site.

Can you provide the link you're referring to for everybody else? Ta

Can only hope it's all bullshit and bravado to bring wage expectations down but I doubt it

An expensive underperforming squad that will be lucky to get promoted. If Rupp and Sparks think that’s ok and they’re not planning on spending more then I’m fecked if I’m buying anything from them.

    Works both ways.

Salford signed Oteh he would have been a decent addition very disappointed to see that the 'budget is done' the budget might be done but the injuries are not and our poor form definitely is not done either

It's all unravelling sooner than normal!!!

It's always easy to be bullish and optimistic before the season starts.....then the harsh truth emerges, both on and off the pitch.

And that is why we won't be emulating what Bolton did last year. We've got no money left to make the changes necessary in January, rupp has turned the tap off and we've got nobody of any value to sell.

It appears to me that somebody at VP towers has been speaking with a forked tongue!

Encouraging ST sales with a message that promotion is the club's expectation has been exposed for what it really is. If the words aren't supported with the right actions (in this case providing the manager with a 'promotion sized' budget) then it has been a cynical approach just to sell more STs. That might have worked once but it doesn't increase trust between the club and its fans. The club is now treating its loyal fans as mugs!

Only last week in the T and A it said they were planning for January already. All seems to be going downhill rather quickly.

I’d imagine this is why we could only attract a 32 year Port Vale striker who had been sent to play with their U23s. His wages here must be minimal. I’d rather have Oteh.
We’re skint and Rupp has clearly decided he won’t be putting any more more money in.
Unless we manage to shift some deadwood in Jan then I don’t see any major business happening.

What an utter joke. Dennis has hit the nail on the head above.

cheap words from the club in the summer.

Adams must wonder why on earth he jumped ship now to join this floundering club with a disinterested owner.

Rupp out. Until he goes nothing will change. Drop the 10m asking price and just sell.

Not surprised rupp is not backing the club's ambitions(ha!) but looking at what our current playing budget has brought us is a shocker.
Bargain basement, over 13,000 S/T's wont get City far, will need to keep lumping £50 on each season to make a decent budget and cover the losses for those who depart.
Glad Adams isn't keeping silent, sparks on the other hand needs to keep a low profile from now on.

Maybe, but if the likes of Remi Oteh or another striker were available, you have one fit striker and can’t convert your chances, then if there is money available then surely you should be snapping him up.

I’m not fussed about Oteh, but the principal is the same. We can’t score and have one fit striker, we should be signing a free agent.

The problem I see is strength in depth. We don’t seem to have any.

Get the missing players back and we are still a fairly decent L2 side and I say that having seen some decent football at home, using injuries can come across as an excuse but Canavan and Vernam were huge misses at the weekend, and Angol has certainly been missed given he was a regular starter. I can see how heads have gone down it’s been a tough run of results.

Rupp is not a charity. He is a successful businessman, and knows where to take risks with his money.

As for the rookie Sparks, his words and promises look very empty right now.

    Adam’s will turn this round,

Although I didn't see it documented anywhere, the whispers from the club in the summer was that the budget was going to be slashed, as Mr Rupp was looking to recoup some of his previous expenditure.
I am however, a little surprised to hear that the lot has gone.

I've said previously that League one football will have to come via Wembley
I've now re-evaluated that position, if the players don't pull their socks up we're definitely looking at a bottom half finish

I'd have thought a 33% increase in season ticket prices would have at least covered a shortfall in budget to have us going in with fighting chance.

Beggars belief that sparks spent all last summer complaining that it was impossible to run to a salary cap of £1.2m yet go in below that and more this year.

This is turning into a car crash month both on and off the field, some serious goodwill between the club and fans is being lost when the club have spent all summer supposedly rebuilding it.

It's an absolute mess, and will be interesting to see what Adam's October announcement brings.
