Yep you are correct. Scaremongering. Loads of water. People fail to see it (it is hiding!)

It’s like that every year, I live literally 4 miles away from Fewston!! In the 90s you could see the old village underneath which is usually submerged , no one was saying anything then!

I can trust this thing called my own eyes. I've seen sunken villages that were not visible outside of really hot and dry summers being visible ALL YEAR ROUND for the last few years. This isn't a two-week issue like you are claiming. There is an issue where we aren't getting the right kind of rain in the right locations and snow in the right locations so our water sources aren't being replaced effectively. The hot weather just makes people realise exactly what a bad state our water supply is in

And again you called me Brainwashed when I SAID NOTHING ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE OR HEATWAVE OR DROUGHT. I responded to a ridiculous claim that we can't have a drought as we have sea all around us. The only way I could be called brainwashed with my post was if the reality was we could drink salt water but we were being told we couldn't. But the simple fact is we cant

Would that be about 27 years ago when the last hose pipe bans were on?

If you look very closely you can see all the water in this reservoir. Total ‘Fake news’ that there is a drought. Don’t believe the pictures! They …..er……could have been doctored!

    upload_2022-8-12_22-42-52.png

Evidence of water pouring into the nearly full reservoir!

Good grief I can’t win with you people. Accept that it’s summer!! Go after the private water companies that have an obscene amount of leaks. Maybe that’s drying the reservoirs quicker, but don’t act like around July and August in a GOOD summer we are having (yes actually enjoy the nice weather instead of masturbating over climate change) that they get to these levels. Like I’ve said a few times it’s over by Monday and rain is forecasted for three days straight.

ITS SUMMER AND WE ARE HAVING A DECENT ONE FOR ONCE. Jees it’s raining all next week.
There’s been multiple hose pipe bans throughout the last 60-70 years. But the sensationalism from the news now is close to unbearable.

Yes mainly from your tears when you see the rain falling and you know your agenda is all over.

And the rain won't solve the problem because again what people like you are failing to understand is less than TEN PERCENT of our water comes from reservoirs. If anything reservoirs are more of our safety net which is why when they are running low (which again many have been low consistently through the year for a few years now). Most of our water comes from groundwater followed by rivers and only then reservoirs and the problem is we have been getting less hard persistent rain storms and more short light showers and we are also getting less snow on hills/mountains so the groundwater and rivers aren't being replenished. And some rivers supply the water into the reservoirs so they don't get topped up. And when we have got heavy storms its more the extreme amount of rain over a fairly short period, the kind that causes flash floods which also isn't great for our water supply.

I should also point out you say we are having a good summer but are we? Are two separate periods of less than a week of really hot weather really 'good weather'. In reality its been weather that's been all over the place, there have been plenty of years, even fairly recently when we may not have had the extreme levels we have had for a couple of the days in the first one and are expected to have in this one BUT we have had more consistent 'uncomfortable' heat levels over a longer period of time.

From what I can see driving past several reservoirs near where I live, they are markedly low.

Yorkshire Water are introducing a hosepipe ban in two weeks time.

The original issue which started this thread, was around the amount of water used to ‘water’ the pitch at Valley Parade and indeed other pitches.

In other parts on the country the drought is even more pronounced.

Should City take action of their volition?

Should the FA/EFL offer guidance or indeed temporary rules, so the condition of pitches throughout England & Wales is comparable?

I’ve never said anything about reservoirs being the backbone of our water supply, I was merely stating they are always low at this time of the year and that major ongoing water leaks and over population with the usual higher and dry time of the year makes them shallow.

Yes we are having a good summer on the whole with two extreme heat waves one of which we are in currently. It’s a dry one but we have them every so often, the past 5 years have been very wet and on the main part quite miserable. Enjoy it. Na night I’m off to dream about beating Newport.

We had rain after the last heat wave yet here you are claiming that the rain next week will 'make everything ok' We had one of the wettest Februaries on record but hey guess what the reservoirs were low in March. The reason that is is that you need the right kind of rain to replenish the groundwater, if the groundwater levels are low then we need to pull more out of the reservoirs. It could rain every day for the rest of the year and without it solving anything if its just light rain or short showers as it will not get into the groundwater.

And leaks are an issue but 1) It's something you can't stop, most leaks are actually so small that the can see from the output its happening BUT knowing where the leak is difficult to identify. They are small leaks but lots of small leaks obviously add up and you can't 2) it's only around 20% and most water companies have reduced that by over 10% in the last 5 years so its less of a problem now than it was so its not like this is the overriding problem, its an added factor but again the problem is the type of rain (and snow) has changed and its become harder to replace the water we use

    Like that every year? Nonsense.

Certainly in one year, 1995, Fewston reservoir was exceptionally low; low enough to see the old submerged village. Mind you, 1995 was one of the hottest summers on record and also classified as a drought. Despite what you say, 1995 was also the last time there was a hosepipe ban with the one prior to that being 1976. They are not as common as you suggest.

Can you not see the parallels with the current weather conditions or is it all fake news for you?

The difference being in 1995 and 1976 people enjoyed them instead of sitting in front of the news getting frightened.
