We had performance's favourable against Pompey and Sunderland ( congratulations totour players in these games) that looked favourable. But the back drop is we have been devoid of decent football, Bristol Rovers, Wycombe, Charlton, Coventry et al

 

I was replying specifically to @bantamlad92 two games against Pompey / Sunderland, but yes those performances were poor on the day/night.

 

We didn't look that doomed today in all honesty. very solid performance against a really tricky side.

 

I’ve not seen anyone ecstatic.

We do need to start winning games, yes.

Given our run of form to date though, a coherent team performance and deserved draw away to the division’s top scorers surely has to be seen as a relative positive?

 

do you get excited about telling kids father Christmas doesn't exist? we are desperately looking for green shoots of recovery and we might have spotted a few today poking through the rock strewn land

 

There can't be any doubt that, when faced with a top side, we have an ability to dig deep and put in a performance. We may have been largely defensive today after going in front, but that wasn't the case against Sunderland, and that performance was also very good.

But what concerns is me is we haven't shown an ability to take it to a lesser side with no real quality. We can't just play well when a team is likely to come at us; we have to start playing well in games like Gillingham, where they didn't attack at all for the first 45 minutes - we have to take advantage of those opportunities and put a couple past them. Gillingham fully punished us when they were let off the leash; and we failed to adapt.

I'm not sold that this game guarantees a good performance against Oxford - I have real doubts we'll be able to outplay them.

Was 1/8 before today’s draw however.

 

The Pompey performance was desperate. We looked like a side battling to survive not one looking to dominate and win the game.

And that’s a mass improvement on the rest of the shite this season.

Suit yourselves but a 1-1 draw while consigned to rock-bottom of League One isn’t going to have me singing and dancing.

 

They had one shot on target all game. Stop trying to be @Fordy117 #2.

 

They were in control of practically the entire match, despite playing well below par. Defensively they were very solid and we never really looked like posing a threat.

Anything to defend the ER regime though eh?

 

We had more shots on target than they did. Go figure.

 

Disappointing to see you arguing that these top teams were playing 'below par'.

They struggled against us, end of story.

 

They were one dimensional. Pass it sideways then sling a cross in the box and hope for the best.

Defensively they were poor, especially set pieces, I don't think they cleared one fully all game, also very uncomfortable on the ball as soon as we pressed them. If we had been a forward thinking team who had gone for it we could easily have scored 3 or 4. Pompey's and Sunderland's defence was much better than theirs today, which is probably why they won't go up. Can't outscore teams every week.

 

Good to hear we pressed well; we've often folded when pressed ourselves, something we need a lot of work on - and perhaps why we are struggling against poorer sides.

 

You contradict yourself. One minute they are in control of the match and next they were hoping for the best.

 

I’m referring to the Portsmouth game specifically as I was there.

I would vehemently disagree that Portsmouth struggled against us in that game.

They cantered to a 0-1 victory without really getting out of 3rd gear.

@Keefly Bantam its rather sad that our supporters have been summoned to considering Wright’s 30 yard deflected efforts on target as a way of arguing for good performances during home league defeats then it is a sorry state of affairs how far we have stooped.

Going back to topic; Yes, a draw is an improvement on however many consecutive league defeats we have endured. However, it is nowhere near enough to justify talk of “easily having enough to stay up” as I’ve seen spoke about on here tonight.

Realise we’re 1/6 to get relegated and are well adrift at the bottom without a win in 9/10 matches or whatever it is. For the second game in a row we squandered a lead too.

Look back at where we were 12 months ago - we wouldn’t be celebrating squandering a lead at Peterborough. R&R have made us like this.

 

They were in control of the midfield as we were happy with them having the ball in that area. As soon as they went forward it was a hit and hope job.

 

Yes I would fully agree with that.

But we still didn’t have any answers for it. We lost yet people are brandishing statements like:

“They struggled against us”
“We had more shots on target”

It cries desperation and our standards are set way too low amongst some of our fans at the minute.

 

We didn't lose!!!!

 

Evans reckoned they smashed us off the park, and the reason they lost was their crosses were poor.

I mean, that might be true, but who cares? The fact their crosses were poor and routinely dealt with IS THE SAME AS saying they struggled against us. Struggled to create chances, struggled to break us down, however you want to word it, Peterborough struggled quite badly for such a touted team.
