The rest of this season is going to be a war of attrition but there are signs that we can win it. I don't think that there will be any miraculous recovery where we win five games in a row to pull ourselves out of trouble. We are going to need to rely on a steady accumulation of points and our form being better than the teams around us. Maybe not a lot better, but just steadily better until we gradually overtake them in the table. We might not escape the relegation zone until April, but as long as we do then that's the main thing.

 

Fantastic win today, and great to see every player give 100% for the shirt. Wasn't a game of great quality but I don't think any game of ours will be this season.

Thought Henry made a difference, just sat infront of the back 4 and didn't move - Exactly the sort of discipline Akpan and Wright have shown none of. Constantly organising too which is something we've badly missed on the pitch.

I thought the defence did well today in all honesty, Oxford didn't really have a clear cut chance other than the one in the 1st half after Caddis' mistake.

Never thought I'd say this but Brunker was alright today. Won a few headers and his general link up play looked better than usual.

First Saturday in god knows how long I can actually enjoy!

 

Very impressed with Caddis, especially early on with some cracking tackles on their number 10 Browne.
Real shame no bugger wants to pass to him when he bombs down the right wing.
More signings like him and i'll turn into a happy clapper!

 

Strange day today, a massive win and absolutely vital given other results.. Feels like the beginning of the season again and about time we shithoused our way to victory by playing poor and time wasting etc.. Thought Ball and O'brien were our only two of note up until the goals, both played very well. Also credit were credit is due, ive slagged them a bit but i thought NKP and O'Connor were magnificent in the second half and headed everything away and even Chicksen was great second half.. Karl Henry was a strange one, think he barely made a pass or tackle all game but looked to have an influence on the others so fair play to that and after a shaky start i think Caddis old manned them a bit.

Hopefully onwards and upwards now, its a shame we bounce straight into a tricky away game which could knock us back again but who knows, maybe this is revival time

The ref was a complete Twit for both teams in all honesty.

Their lad went down like he had been shot to get NKP sent off then got straight back up.

 

Not the greatest quality wise, but really enjoyed the way the players fought for everything
Bruenker had by far his best game for us and deserved his standing ovation.
Caddis MOTM for me. Just one early error, but he is a wily old pro, just what we need.

The fans were absolutely magnificent in the closing stages as we battled to preserve that clean sheet with 10 men.

By the way Doyle was clapping him off , I think he really appreciated having him playing up front with him today.

Clearly he's no Mark Hughes, or even Big Jim at his peak, but we were SO much more effective today with him up there.
Yes, he sometimes missed things and often looked very clumsy. But he held the ball up and laid it off several times and won some good headers that created problems in their defence, one of them leading to a goal. Even when he wasn't winning challenges/headers his physical presence was a real handful. Having him jumping against them meant the ball wasnt always coming straight back at us as it usually does. Most CBs we've faced this season have had an armchair ride against Doyle and Miller, but Oxford's will certainly know they've been in a game today.

I certainly hope that Hopkin brings in a better CF in January. But Kai showed today that he can do a job for us until then and can be a useful (if limited) squad member for the season.

 

Not read all the comments so this may have already mentioned. In a team full of good performances Chicksen was my stand out player today. Didn't really put a foot wrong and the lung bursting run in injury time was immense. Been underwhelmed with him since his return and have felt Wood was generally more deserving of the spot. However today he showed what he can bring to the team.

I think Robinson might have sold him when at Charlton so perhaps he had a point to prove.

Other mention to Kai who played best I've seen so far, caused them some problems did the donkey work for those around and we actually looked more of a threat for it

If that is Bruenker's best game then just........wow! He gave it everything but I have no idea what he contributed apart from running around a lot. Caddis was great, seen it and done it 10000 times, same as Henry, shame those 2 didn't pitch up last January.........

I can't take to much heart from the result, I think (effort aside) we looked poor.

 

Its Brunker and it was his best performance I have seen in a City shirt. No wow about it. Won quite a few headers that resulted in us getting in good attacking positions. He was quite rightly given a resounding ovation when subbed. I take it you sat on your hands at that point?
Caddis and Henry are already making a difference in game management.
We won a game we had to and rarely looked in trouble and you say it was poor?

 

I agree. Anything we get Tuesday will be a bonus.

Luton very very strong at home. But win our home games and see where that takes us
