Well you must read it to comment on it, my reading of the sports section goes way back before Simon Parker, try Don Aldred or David Markham.

I remember Robbie Blake been branded as rubbish with a poor attitude around this time in 98.

 

Why are you writing off Poleon but not McCarten? To me they've shown almost identical levels of performance.

Its been a wasted season for Shay, not shown anything like enough to warrant a first team place. I think people were hoping he would be one of the stars of the season with the fee paid for him. I hope it comes good for the lad, whether it be here or elsewhere, but when you keep hearing the phrase 'there's a player in there somewhere' over and over we end up in Billy Knott territory. If he is here next season he needs to hit the ground running, there are no excuses if he wants to make a success of it.

He couldn't get into a winning team, then was injured and has not had many starts since, hard to come to a clear judgement on him, I don't know but Accy fans loved him.

 

He's had chances this season, just hasn't taken them. He may turn out to have a good season next season, sometimes players fit better with other players around them. But definitely a season to forget for the lad. Not on his own though, nobody has had a standout season.

I only know one and every time I see him he winds me up about how they suckered us into signing a player that only came alive from January. As I’ve said before, he claims McCartan never looked fit at Stanley and often got taken off before the end of games. He also stated the player scored 11 times and that 5 of those were from direct free-kicks.

Despite playing most of his games as a 2nd striker or just behind Kee, he only had 3 assists and those 11 goals. Many of our fans are unhappy with Poleon only scoring 6 in 16 league starts, but you’re suggesting Accie fans were happy with McCartan managing 6 (in open play) from 26 starts?

As I say, I can only go by what my colleague tells me, but if he is any indication, they were more than happy to get £200k for him.

 

I fully accept your view of McCarten, but we have paid money for him and therefore I think we should keep him another season. His fitness is a concern, when I first saw him at the start of the season he was definitely overweight. No idea what had been happening to him, but fitness coach needs to get hold of him, so that he arrives back for training fully fit.

 

He started the season in the team but struggled and was dropped. He's had the chances but hasn't been good enough.
