‘Off Pitch’ as an issue, then the stadium is now becoming very shabby. One of the long term design faults is the lower tier of the Main/JCT Stand. The leg room is appalling. Several in our group are over 6 foot and the depth of the terracing is totally inadequate. Whoever designed must have been a ‘personal friend’ of @Fordy117@Fordy117 or incapable of establishing how much legroom is needed in a modern stadium. I know it won’t happen but I would like the bottom section of the Main Stand to be resurfaced (probably lose a couple of rows) and to offer a comparable space to the Midland Road.

Do you mean Ashley Ward? We had Westwood in division 1 and he wasn’t exactly experienced. I struggle to believe we bought someone from Crewe when we were in the second tier and paid them that much in the 90’s.

All the reasons that have been outlined through the thread.

    • Clearly defined plan
    • Partnerships built and nurtured all over the pitch
    • Tactics used to both nullify opponents but also use the skilled players in the team
    • Ability to connect team and fans to create atmosphere
    • Willingness to use pacy wide players
    • Players development
    • High level loanees
    • Midfield 2 that would control a game
    • Centre backs gave the rest of the team a stable platform

They pretty much differed in every aspect of the job apart from using a target man.

So how do their style of plays differ? None of that’s stated here. Most of it’s specific tactics you’ve mentioned or fans. They both play an ugly style which requires a target man which is the whole point. We’ll see if performances improve once Bowyer has his target man back. It is his fault though that he didn’t get more than one, Parky was never short on a big man.

I agree he was never short of a big man. But unless you think McArdle just whacked it to Hanson every single time and no one else touched the ball then there were obviously other aspects to it.

Parkinson used pace on one wing and structure on the other.
One attacking full back and one defensive one.
The centre halves were a true partnership and solid
The midfield were a true partnership and recycled the ball quickly.

Bowyer has shown none of this.

If you say so. Our victories over Swindon and Exeter in particular we showed potential to dismiss the poor form we are in now as that’s how it has been from day one is nonsense. Also to dismiss the fact a target man wouldn’t have a detrimental effect on a Parkinson team as it is now is also nonsense. We were poor in the few times we played under Parkinson without a target man, so too say it wasn’t the main ingredient is nonsense.

We’ll see when Donaldson comes back, obviously if things don’t improve then we need to look at alternatives.

But after 44 games people were calling Parkinson Plonkinson and soon changed their tune, footballs fickle a few wins on the spin with a few more shots on target and people would soon start to turn again. Deny it all you want.

I'm not saying he didn't need a targetman. He did. That's why he kept signing them. But to say it was JUST a targetman and therefore hes the same as Bowyer is stupid.

You're right. After 44 games a lot of people were less than sure and rightly so. However he was lumbered with the worse squad I've ever seen and as soon as he had a summer transfer window he turned it around. Even the loanees, free agents and development of players like Wells during that 44 game spell hinted at something even if the results didn't. Bowyer has had nothing of that type.

You're also right that people called him Plonkinson after that however you need to remember that was people like Fordy who would struggle to create a spark if knowledge was fire.

Isn’t the lower tier as it was when it was built in 1986?

Listen my rear protests every time I have to sit on those racks! I like it when I can move up and sit on the old seats.

Yes. Arguably the oldest bit of the ground (except part of the retaining wall at the west end of the Bradford End and the changing room building). Constructed in a rush, and with little apparent planning as to the dimensions. If you sat straight, the seat in front would permanently scar the top of your shins!!:eek2:

Took these picture last Thursday hoping some could recognise this lad, it was Will Buckley who did not sign for us but returned to Bolton where he fractured his tibial and will require surgery.
