Any examples in football? Can’t say it feels regular but I maybe wrong.

 

Perhaps Adams applied, and we did the right thing and proper thing in getting permission, but when we spoke to him decided he wasn't right ?

Just because we spoke to him, and he's in a job, doesn't mean we initiated the discussion does it ?

 

Maybe we spoke to him and decided he wouldn't fit with our new approach?
Adams strikes me as the kind of guy who wants his way or no way.
Working with a Head of Recruitment who isn't directly subordinate to him maybe wasn't to his taste?
Personally I'd be quite happy if he was rejected as not a good fit for our new culture Mr Sparks is trying to instill in the club.
Firstly it shows ambition in talking to possible targets even if they're already in a job. And secondly, we're being picky rather than employing the first washed up hasbeen that knocks on the door.

Looks like we’ve dodged a bullet with Paul Hurst. Grimsby getting another hiding.

It's absolutely wishful thinking on my part. But I really hope this interim manager scenario is due to the fact that they're trying to sign Flynn in the summer. Watching them on TV tonight and they work their absolute ball-axe off from one to eleven. It's the first time I've seen them recently when I haven't been preoccupied with City's performance when we've played them. They're far less one dimensional than I thought, they press high up and are very organised and compact. Much like Parkinson, he also seems to be able to create a team from players who aren't necessarily the best on paper. He gets routine and average players over achieving.

I don't really see what that has to do with Paul Hurst.

 

Sellars and Trueman had more of an impact here

 

True, personally I’d argue totally different circumstances though. We were totally unorganised and gung ho, with players that seemed to not have a clue what they were doing and as a result looked totally unmotivated. All it took imo was someone to come in, simplify things, do proper analysis on opposition instead of totally changing tactics every game, things I’d expect any manager to do which is why McCall failed so badly. As a result of basic changes we have seen a change in form. Grimsby however looked organised when we played them but out of ideas and simply lacked any quality at all. Even though I think we were about 3rd bottom when we played them I didn’t look at any of their squad and think they’d improve us. And I don’t think it’s coincidence at the start of the season Grimsby were ones wanting to postpone the season for longer, they look woeful and I can’t see how anyone will help them as when we went down a couple of years ago. Some teams are just beyond help. We’ll never know how Hurst would have done here as it’s totally different teams.

 

Think that’s taking away the job these two have done. We looked dead and buried under McCall and were making awful mistakes every week just like @JonButterfield is saying Grimsby are still making. The managers came in and changed the tactics and mentally bu the looks of it and it’s worked. Everyone was commenting on here how we needed 5 or 6 signings just to compete and they are 5 unbeaten. It’s been a good turnaround.

He did well at Grimsby first time and Shrewbury....there is some ability there.

Didn't shed any tears when he went back to GT though....we have seen the improvement City have made under T and S with our own eyes and the interim news was exactly what needed to happen, even if many had a hissy fit over the wording of the announcement at the time!

 

I’m certainly not looking to take anything away from what they’ve done, although we need to see over longer than 5 games imo football is so fickle 2 or 3 loses on the bounce and opinion on them will change. Main point I was making is we’ll never know how Hurst or A N Other would have done with this team, this team needs to make itself hard to beat which is why I was probably in a minority of not wanting Lowe as his style of play could have seen this squad ripped apart. However I’d love him in the summer when he has chance to do a full rebuild or a Flynn.

 

Looking at the type of players we are bringing in-young un's then T&S are IMO best placed to coach them-fresh ideas and a current football non dinosaur management style. The way things are going we will have a potentially youthful starting 11 for the first time in ages.

3 points in front of Grimsby as we stand and 4 games in hand. Beat Southend on Tuesday and the inevitable safety is well on the way.

Results going well so far, but the best results are our own. Certainly don’t want to rely on others failing.
