We were never in the schengen zone therefore we can refuse to admit whoever we like. We were treated as a special case in Europe in absolutely loads of areas with regards to opt outs, exemptions etc and this was one of them. For example, how it was legislated that us and Denmark were two countries that would never be under any obligation to start using the Euro as a condition of membership like other countries were. Ultimately you guys won and stuff so crack on and enjoy it etc, but I will remain convinced unless it sparks some sort of super national economic period of plenty that its a completely fecking dumb idea that will achieve the complete opposite of what it actually set out to.

The Tories breathing a huge sigh of relief with this appointment. Shadow minister for community cohesion lol. Even the title of the job stinks, i mean, 'community cohesion'.Bronco likes this. -

The last thing Labour need are decisive, controversial figures in senior roles. Not sure why you’d appointment Naz Shah in a role dedicated to ‘community cohesion’ given her history in politics.

made lots of mistakes and doesnt always help himself but the guy doesnt deserve stuff like this. agree with him or not he's been a member of the party for over 50 years, so to be hounded out as a racist because its suits starmer to look like hes making a clean break with corbyns era isn't right to me. clearly there's a problem in the party however I do think a wider conversation needs to happen about speaking about the state of israel vs judaism itself. a lot of the anti semitism stuff seems to come from reactions to left wing people making pro palestine comments and critisizing the state of israel etc rather than just straight up hatred.

The sooner Corbyn has nothing to do with Labour the better, I was against him becoming Leader as he is just plain unelectable which meant that millions of poor and working class families would not be represented and at the mercy of Tory governments, Those who supported him have to accept that they are responsible for letting down the traditional Labour voter, Starmer needs to build a cross section of society that will support Labour and social equality and getting rid of an exreme left leader is a good start,

Unfortunately Shami Chakrabarti when she conducted her review on behalf of Corbyn of Labour party 'ant-semitic' processes, gave the leadership the green light by saying their processes were robust and there had only been a few examples of anti-semitic behaviour in the Labour party. For that she was elevated to the Lords. Now the independent EHRC contradicts that review and I was pleased to hear that Starmer was accepting in its entirety, agreeing to its recommendations and trying to draw a line under it. Corbyn flaunted that and I believe deliberately to create some kind of rallying call for his followers. As you say, he was more concerned with his own position than he party he says he hsa supported for 50+ years. I heard that McCluskey has now shifted his position and tacitly criticising Corbyn for his inital response.
I really hope that Corbyn isn't contrite about his remarks and finds himself isolated inside or outside his party with just a few of his inner circle. That might provide what this country has been lacking for several years now and that is a viable and potentially electable opposition.trevor likes this. -

Now i can't say i'm James O'Briens biggest fan but the stick he's getting today for essentially been spot on right is laughable. The overall point he's making is completely missed by the loony left in that if they don't all come together united behind whoever is leader Labour will never get back into power. Sad to see our only viable alternative to the conservative party effectively eat itself from within. So many warring factions within Labour, all with their own hidden agendas and thirst for power will determine the Tories will yet again not even have to turn up to the next election to win.YungNath likes this. -
Labour has never supported or represented the poor, unemployed, disabled or pensioners, They are at last realising this and voting elswhere, Labour has in the past had an interest in keeping people poor as it keeps thier support base.

At first I thought Starmer would make a good opponent but it appears he needs a personality transplant. He is also trying bridge the unbridgeable divide between wings of his party. He needs to do what Blair did take the left on and build a party that is competent with a social conscience.

Blair had the right idea, Promote free enterprise and profits to tax and spend on social needs and invest in public services, Unfortunately the left and Momentum hated this and him and got rid of him as they wanted to nationalise everything
