I worry for the Labour party and therefore our democracy. Strong and credible government needs a strong and credible opposition. With a straight replacement for Corbyn, let's call that replacement Rebecca, the LP is finished as a credible political party. It will become little more than a campaigning group for wacky causes.

The likes of Milne together with Murray and Murphy and McCluskey have already stitched up the NEC with Corbynistas and have 'managed' the processes to give an advantage to the candidates, sorry candidate, supported by Momentum and Unite. All of the recent fuss about Starmer's supporters supposedly scaping data from the membership list was all a smokescreen to deflect attention from the real issue that much of the membership data is owned by Momentum and they can control when it is released and to whom. It's been demonstrated already inadvertently that RBL supporters have access to the membership lists but others won't have that access until the next round of voting. It's the way a banana republic might well operate and not a political party which says it believes in democracy.

Perversely, part of me would like to see RLB win the leadership contest. It might then precipitate a realignment of UK politics on the centre-left and produce a genuine and credible opposition which is what the country needs for strong government.

The social care system will collapse without 'unskilled' overseas workers on about half the proposed income threshold. Most people don't think about this. But how many British people want to earn £12 an hour to wipe the arses of old people with dementia in care homes, or shower them down when they've been sat at home in their own excrement for several hours between home care visits? Very few. Both my parents, my aunt and my mother in law were looked after in their last years by precisely the kind of people that this government wants to stop coming here. It's a massive disaster waiting to happen. And the people who voted for Brexit will be the first to complain when they can't get decent care for themselves or their loved ones in old age.
I simply don't understand this English obsession with immigrants. Brexit will limit the number of Poles and Bulgarians but is irrelevant for non-EU immigrants - we were always free to control the flow of those anyway, if we'd chosen to do so. We didn't do so because we need these people to do the jobs that we don't want to do - whether that's wiping bums or picking fruit and veg. We are going to condemn our economy to years of decline outside the EU to satisfy this irrational desire to keep the population of this country looking the same as us, at whatever cost.

As I posted we will make the decision of who enters our country be they doctors civil engineers fruit pickers or people who work in the social care system as you say.
That will be totally different to free movement which we had to go along with whilst in the EU.
We've been through brexit till it's been done to death, I believe the UK negotiators will now be able to negotiate from a far stronger stance and the EU know that, Boris has made it clear it will need to be done by the end of this year which already is making the hierarchies within the EU speak with a different slant on the proposed negotiations, which is hardly surprising now May is no longer any part of the negotiating team.
The 80+ seat majority the Tories now have is a far different position from Theresa May's days as PM and the EU know it , many were predicting dome and gloom using the strength of the £ as an example of devastation brexit would bring yet midweek the £ hit pre the referendum days with regards the Euro.
Nissan say they could do the opposite to what they originally threatened taking manufacturing from the UK to a new stance of more manufacturing within the UK.
I genuinely believe Team Boris will get a good deal for the UK but only time will tell, but the EU cant be in any doubt this government mean business and the clock is ticking.

Whilst entertaining I'll be glad when the coronation is over this weekend, did you see Corbyns smug face when everybody was wishing him well at last PM's question time ? it just screamed "I ain't going nowhere"
Covid-19 or Corbyn-20.....not sure which is worse....!!

I think his suspension is more to do with his denial of the problem in the Labour Party.
The investigation only looked at about 70 of the complaints logged and found interference with about a third of those. Then there was two cases of harassment with another 18 there or there about. Added on the lack of training given after all the leadership statements about it being a priority.
But Corbyn wasn’t suspended for leading any of that but his claims that the problem wasn’t that bad. If there was evidence of a third of all police investigations having been interfered with he would be rightly shouting about it and calling out anyone claiming it wasn’t a real problem

Corbyn is so pro Palestine that it blinds him to antisemitism in his own party, He purposely or otherwise blocked or ignored all complaints of antisemitism while he was leader leading to his right demise,
Corbyn has openly called Hamas his friends and applauded there work despite the stated aim of Hamas is the complete destruction of the state of Isreal and the extinction of the Jewish people, How can you support such a view and not be antisemitic, He is a very dangerous man,

That is the original party, Built from the working classes and trade unions, They built the NHS, the welfare state and good council housing, However they realised that as people got better off they changed to vote tory, Labour then kept the poor poorer by keeping benefits and pensions as low as possible while preaching their support for the poorer classes, ( Labours pension increase of 25p for an example) You say it is nonsence but I say you are as stupid as most of the working classes that support a party who has to keep its support by keeping them poor, Otherwise answer this, When in power why do not Labour make sure benefits and pensions are much higher to a living standard instead of been the lowest in the modern Europe, Why do they cut the NHS just like the Tories, You need to think deeper and get away from years of brainwashing and been gullible, How many Labour MPs have come from a working class background? Not many

Labour and the Unions did that without a pandemic but without the millions spent, bodies left unburied and bins not emptied with streets full of rubbish.

They will start to reclaim it back from the poor and working poor no matter who is in power, Having said that the poor and working poor have always been better off under the Tories, Labour make great speeches but do nothing for them in power, The best they did was the minimum wage but even then the Tories have increased it more than Labour would have I suspect, Labour look at policies as what will win votes rather than what is the right thing to do and the electorate see through this

What I don't understand is how his line of thought gets put to to one side so easily. It's not even a difficult question!

If Labour believe that the wage rise should be 4% or whatever then just say it......and then explain how it is possible to pay for it.

The issue as always in that the Unions are pushing for the ridiculous (12%!) which is impossible to justify or cost. It puts Starmer in a completely impossible position which is losing his already wafer thin credibility.

Nothing like Israel and Palestine conflict to drag out the far left of the Labour party.

Clearly this was the working mans greatest concern when they were knocking on doors in Hartlepool.

I have no doubt there are many there concerned with the situation, however it would be naive to ignore that some are simply there because they harbour anti semitic views and they can hide behind the conflict to express them. After all they never come out for others such as the Uyghurs on China, however if that was repeated in Isreal they no doubt would be out.

There must be a black/Asian gay female or trans that Labour could pick as next leader? Maybe someone from the BBC could do?
