Bulls boss chris Caisley got in a pissing contest with the Leeds Rhinos

Lestyn Harris Leeds star player moved to RU , A few years later Bulls singed Iestyn from RU on absolutely crazy wages

But Leeds said they still own the registration so had first refusal on him , Bulls disagreed

The wages they paid him was ridicules and he was way past his pomp , this rocked the boat with other star Bulls players so there was a mass exodus

Leeds took the Bulls to court and won , It cost the bulls 100,s of thousands in compensation which took years to re pay and led to the demise .... plus loadsa other stuff

The houses are worth £30,000 so offer them £60,000 or a swap for one on Leeds Road or similar area. It could be done.

You'd have thought a Sports Lawyer would have known how the club he was running stood with regards Lestyn Harris registration, as you say the start of the end for the Bulls such a shame.

So how come all the other major Rugby league sides updated there grounds and the Bulls didn’t do a thing ??????
They had millions in the bank gates of over 15k surly then was the time to do something but I tell you why it didn’t happen ............ they thought that the council would fund it all and had City not got into the mess they ended up in then the council would have ...............here’s a thought though why don’t the glory hunting arseholes who followed that team during there heyday come back and support them ????
Maybe if 5 thousand turned back up they would not be in the mess they are in ................ honestly I would love the council to do it all up but it’s the fact they would be doing it for them yet again ....................

Another potencial stumbling block with regards the Bradford End was if the then owners wanted to develop that end they had to make sure that the business around that end of the ground had access to their work places, and all the expenses that went with that.
Haven't the council been involved with the new £1.2 million sports complex that has been built at the back of the Bradford End.
Ryan has said he has regular conversations with Gorden Gibb which isn't a bad thing with regards your landlord I'd think the question of rent might be brought up but at the end of the day if Ryan and his team along with Hughes and his team can get us up the leagues (let's say the Championship) the the annual rent isn't the burden it is in league two.

Regarding developing Valley Parade does it really need it ?????
25k was more than big enough and let’s be right a few times in the PL the ground wasn’t full anyhow ............ it’s fine as it is our own misshaped home :) give me that over the Lego sets that are flying up now

The bulls were a victim of their own success, the better you become the bigger the wages you have to fork out. Caisley had budgeted for bigger crowds on their return to Odsal, crowds numbers which were pivotal to pay for the increasing wages. He knew the writing was on the wall. For over 10 years the bulls brought razzmatazz and big crowds to super league, something they should be praised for. Unfortunately the big benefactor behind other clubs wasn't there and the club weren't able to recover from the Harris debacle

I was one of them, followed them as Bulls/Northern for 20 years but saw what was happening with the club behind the scenes. Just like football, i won't follow blindly if i become bored with what i see as frauds running the show. I did the same with City in the late 2000s, i ain't there to watch aimless shite.

I very much doubt we would get the gates we get now if we were in non-league football which is similar to the ruby Championship.
The situation they found themselves in was because of shocking management from above, where have we seen that before, I've no axe to grind with Bulls fans they were a credit to their club and Bradford as a whole getting 20,000+ for home games bring revenue to the City.

If the Bulls and Cougars merged they would be a force to be reckoned with in Super League and VP is the perfect spot for the two Bradford clubs to come together.

When Richmond redeveloped Valley parade. he wanted the kop to be full length on the top tier, but that meant purchasing the houses on rock terrace. I was told he offered full market value plus compensation, but the residents wanted twice the market value, hence the cut out to the top tier, if we had stayed up the second premier season the Midland road was going to get a second tier taking capacity to about 30,000. As we stand the stadium is perfectly adequate its just a shame we do not own it , thus saving the almost £9000 per week rent.

Re the bulls , they dont own the ground Bradford council does

Most other clubs sold the old grounds to housing and with council / outside help built better stadiums elsewhere

The bulls only had the lease of odsal for peppercorn rent , they sold that to the RFL to help clear depts ... probably the final nail in the Bulls coffin that masterstroke

There’s a clue in my post “ benefactors” . Northerns benefactor was the Bradford Council Tax payer, not private individuals. That’s how come.

I believe the rent was the vast sum of £1 per year and the council also provided the stewarding and bar staff as well with the bulls getting a percentage or the takings from said bars. Odsal stadium is a dump , anything owned by this council will eventually end up like that , Richard Dunn's , The lido swimming pool in Manningham park, Park Avenue stadium are examples of facilities they owned that were left to go to ruin. All were fantastic sporting venues that they owned but never managed correctly

Sadly due to the cost Andy. It’s like anything these days, if people don’t use facilities and hardly contribute to running costs then it’s bound to happen.

This is true to a point . I worked at the lido as a youngster, first summer after school as a pool attendant , on a hot day we would get over 1000 in . The pool systems were shot then . If it had been maintained it would be a money making asset , especially in these changing times climate wise. Park Avenue was the same, when the council took over after the football club went. They should have moved the Bulls in, think Headingley and with the south Asian community loving cricket, what a lost opportunity.

It’s far too seasonal , you said it yourself really. It wasn’t geared up for all season swimming…..Freezing in summer at its best . We used to go as local nippers in the 50’s and 60’s boy was that top board high!

Yes it is seasonal, but was virtually mothballed every September to the end of April. The summer i worked there 1980. The water heating system had not worked for at least 15 years, the filtration was about 50% and i had to poor the chlorine in every evening from 5 gallon drums, then i had to vac all the leaves and other crap out every morning before we opened. My father work for the baths department and the maintenance budget for the lido was Zero , all the money was pushed to Ilkley lido.
