If he performing well for us and Rotherham recall him we should be at the front of the queue, it will be the January window I'd say Bowyer would have a good case to put forward to sign him permanently.

I wouldn’t disagree with your view; however isn’t it best to have quality in your team even for a short time? I know it is frustrating I feel the same as long as we don’t blow the budget in January in trying to get him to stay and leave ourselves short. I honestly don’t think anything would have saved us last season. This season feels entirely different as night and day. So hopefully we can achieve promotion this season.

Reality is most loans end up staying and the Payne situation was unique in that we were paying such a tiny percentage of his salary originally. I imagine we’re paying a lot more towards this lad. What happened with Payne basically rarely happens so I wouldn’t worry too much about it

I get what your saying and if in theory you could replace a player like for like in January then there wouldn't be much of a problem. Sadly that's unlikely and it just causes unnecessary upheaval imo.

Put another way, I’d rather AO’C, Riley, Patrick and McCartan were signed on loan....!

Fantastic signing. If he does well and goes in January, so what? Must mean we are doing well surely?

Why are people worried about his recall clause it’s highly unlikely they’d want him back with only 5 months left on his contract unless to try get a small fee which we’d be in pole position to offer

If he does well for us, then the whole team should be in a good position. If he leaves, then we should be an attractive option for a replacement, as playing in or around the promotion slots, in a big ground in front of around 15,000 fans is likely to be an attractive proposition to a player and other clubs.

What's the pointless decision about the recall in Jan? All season loans have that option.

It's more than likely he will be here for the season and if he proves his worth he starts then if not he will be on the bench with us looking to get another player in Jan that's better.

    It's football! Next!

I look at loans now in the same way as I do with getting an overseas player at Yorkshire cricket. It enables you to get someone in whom you wouldn't be able to afford permamently but in the time he plays for your team he hopefully adds quality. Kane Williamson the New Zealand captain often comes to Yorkshire for short spells and while he's here he's a great asset. Similarly when we got Cullen and Burke they were quality while at City but we knew they would never be ours. However long this lad Palmer is here let's hope he brings midfield quality to our team.

Two things will trigger the clause from Rotherham's
position,if they are struggling and or have lots of injuries.

When it ultimately boils down to it he is the parents clubs player. They don’t have to loan him out

If he plays well and contributes to us having a strong start to the season, that is only of benefit to us. If they recall him we have to
    a. Deal with it,
    b. Try keep him.
Whatever the outcome he will have contributed to six months progression which is a damn better position to be in than scrabbling around with a less a quality player and an average start to the campaign.

Don’t know loads about him, but reviews are very positive as are some of the highlights I’ve seen. Looks like exact type of player we are missing from CM and I can’t imagine there are that many options available to GB with his amount of experience but still at a young age.

All in all, I only see this as another positive signing.

Nobody is worried about Rotherham wanting him back. The concern is that another club would enquire to his parent club about him, meaning we have to stump up more wages or miss out on him if he joins the other club permanently.

Even then I don’t see them wanting him back. They struggled all of last season and had a fair few injuries at one point, yet never looked like wanting to take Ball back. They remain a league above us following our respective relegations. I just don’t see them wanting him back
