One solitary loan so far hardly going to rock the boat if he goes back.
I look forward to seeing how he adapts and applies himself.
If he turns in good performances like O'Brien who was also a loanee it's a win, win regardless of where he plays in the second half of the season.
Let it take it's course what will be will be.

What's the pointless decision about the recall in Jan? All season loans have that option.

It's more than likely he will be here for the season and if he proves his worth he starts then if not he will be on the bench with us looking to get another player in Jan that's better.

I look at loans now in the same way as I do with getting an overseas player at Yorkshire cricket. It enables you to get someone in whom you wouldn't be able to afford permamently but in the time he plays for your team he hopefully adds quality. Kane Williamson the New Zealand captain often comes to Yorkshire for short spells and while he's here he's a great asset. Similarly when we got Cullen and Burke they were quality while at City but we knew they would never be ours. However long this lad Palmer is here let's hope he brings midfield quality to our team.

 

Its a very good point. The signing of players usually goes with a quick wiki check of their stats and what division they have played in. Easy thing to do, i'm guilty of it when i see a players name mentioned.
Take Parky's promotion winning team for example. Apart from when Andrew Davies came in, i wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the signings that were made. Yet that side went on to have the success it did. And yet how many of that side actually went on to bigger and better things. Nahki the obvious one, Meredith, you could argue Jonny Mac. But that was it. The success was down to the gelling of the team and a high end goal scorer like Wells.
Same with McCalls Wembley playoff side, how many of those have bettered themselves after leaving Bradford? Meredith, Cullen after his promotion. No one else. It was the team and the pieces of that team that fit together to complement the jigsaw puzzle.
How many promotions and relegations a player has had is irrelevant, its how this unit of players performs on the pitch together. What for me does have relevance is how Bowyer has been in this situation before and been successful with it. Its no guarantee but i see Bowyer having a lot of traits that Chris Wilder has. His man management skills, built up over years of coaching and researching management, seems to be the perfect fit for this club. I guess only time will tell.

Spoke to Rotherham fan that I used to work with, and he said Palmer is a good player, just never really given a chance in the championship, as Rotherham were always struggling and manager preferred to set up defensively. Said he’d do an excellent job for us in league 2.

 

Maybe if he plays well we may buy him in January when he only as 6 months left on his contract.

 

Just pretend its a 6 month loan then. You would probably have been happy with that to secure what looks like a good player coming in.

 

If we’re in the auto spots in January and they recall him ,i can see Rupp stumping up cash to keep him. At the end of the day Rupp needs us promoted to protect his investment, and if Palmer is pulling the strings in the midfield I can’t see us wanting to lose him at any cost.

 

If he performing well for us and Rotherham recall him we should be at the front of the queue, it will be the January window I'd say Bowyer would have a good case to put forward to sign him permanently.

 

I see it like this as well, he’s dropped a division with relegation yet they deem him surplus to requirements. Thats not to say he won’t be a success for us, the potential is there for him to do a job for us, but i remember a fair few getting excited at this stage last season because we had signed players from higher divisions and look how that turned out.
All down to Bowyer getting them working as a team.

 

Ball, Butterfield and Akpan all “played at a much higher level”, but I wouldn’t class any of them as ‘fantastic signings’.
