Yes he was Broncs. On the Board around 1973 ish for a couple of years with Bob Martin and Jack T. Mainly to keep the Banks at bay as I always understood. He was more keen on Rugby at Odsal and watched more RL than football on television.
Myself and Martin Ackroyd who is still a big fan battled every year in the Boardroom but Ken’s view was always “what about other locations where we have stores”, so Martin and I threw the towel in although we did do match sponsorship in Gilly’s time.
This is a good change. I have spoken with David Potts and his Commercial Director in the last two weeks and know they have been very impressed with Ryan and Davide. As an ardent Man City fan, used to the best, praise indeed from David Potts.

The commercial performance of the club is noticably better. Fair play to all involved. Getting some of our merchandise available to buy in Morrisons stores is a great move.

    Nevermind Ken this, Jack that.

Great to have a further sponsorship deal at the club. Fair play to all concerned in making it happen.

We do seem to be making a conscious decision to have local companies entwined in the club.

Big Geoffrey was pretty clued up in the commercial sector but Sparks doesn't have the luxury of Richmonds open chequebook and as such has to think outside the box. There were a fair few on here that didn't really understand that first and foremost Bradford City is a business that will live and die on the income it brings in. There were things at the club that were quite frankly embarrassing, i know for a fact staff had no real targets to hit and things like the dug outs and the shabby conference areas showed those running the club didn't care. Professionalism is all about attention to detail and that mantra has to run through the whole club.

I think the costs are minimal on both sides.
City is donating 5000 tickets over 2 seasons and Morrisons will give up a small amount of space in 5 stores to sell City merchandise, from which I expect they will take a cut.
All publicity, but none the worse for that. Bigger things may come of it.

I correct you Idle, they were good mates. In my time I’ve joined them for lunch, they got on really well, two Yorkshire men, two locals joshing each other, great entertainment.

Thanks I knew he was. Oddly before I started as an apprentice I used to have a part time job 70-71 in the wholesale market . Always , whatever the weather , had my scarf on , Ken always had a chat . He once bought dozens of cases of Jaffa oranges from me….made my day did that. Great fella .

From memory I seem to remember Morrisons inherited a couple of football based sponsorship deals when they took over Safeway. The Scottish National team and a sponsorship of one of the stands at Crystal Palace or something? Suffice to say neither were renewed.

Great to get Morrisons back on board. The more major local businesses we can encourage to join us, the more cause for celebration.Compared to recent years..we're motoring! Well done City.

It was around the 1974/75 era, Avenue were going out of existence and Bob Martin thought he could get the Avenue fans joining City fans supporting a new team called Bradford Metro as Bradford had become a metropolitan council. It was a few years later round about 1979/80 when he got his dodgy architect friend John Garside who wasn’t an actual architect to draw up plans to move City to Avenue. It was roundly criticised at the annual shareholder meeting and in the end public opinion from City fans and the cost binned the project.

It’s either no cost to City ( The seat would be empty in any case or a small cost to Morrison’s .

A great exercise to get kids interested or the underprivileged involved imho.

If I were Sparks the first thing I would have done is start to set ambitious targets, say a commercial turnover of £1.2 million or something like that. I then challenge my commercial director not only to reach that target but to beat it. Offer incentives to staff based on performance. Same with the merchandise, it seems we're already way ahead in like for like sales of the new shirt and you then have created a knock on effect where because targets are being met, staff go that extra mile. Have to admit I'm impressed how Sparks gets it.

The order of the day is partnerships as oppose to sponsorships.
