The order of the day is partnerships as oppose to sponsorships.

I believe Ken Morrison was involved at one time at Valley Parade in some capacity I wonder why a company like Morrisons was never an annual sponcor like JCT600.

Ken was a Director, I guess around the late 60’s early 70’s

And yes Morrison’s missed a big opportunity when City were in Div 1/2 a BIG opportunity!

Wasn't one theory albeit not a good one that being a Bradford business it could alienate Leeds, Huddersfield fans from spending money with a Bradford City sponsor..?

Yes he was Broncs. On the Board around 1973 ish for a couple of years with Bob Martin and Jack T. Mainly to keep the Banks at bay as I always understood. He was more keen on Rugby at Odsal and watched more RL than football on television.
Myself and Martin Ackroyd who is still a big fan battled every year in the Boardroom but Ken’s view was always “what about other locations where we have stores”, so Martin and I threw the towel in although we did do match sponsorship in Gilly’s time.
This is a good change. I have spoken with David Potts and his Commercial Director in the last two weeks and know they have been very impressed with Ryan and Davide. As an ardent Man City fan, used to the best, praise indeed from David Potts.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there was a long time dispute between Jack Tordoff and Ken Morrison over land on Sticker Lane, they never saw eye to eye.

I correct you Idle, they were good mates. In my time I’ve joined them for lunch, they got on really well, two Yorkshire men, two locals joshing each other, great entertainment.

Thanks I knew he was. Oddly before I started as an apprentice I used to have a part time job 70-71 in the wholesale market . Always , whatever the weather , had my scarf on , Ken always had a chat . He once bought dozens of cases of Jaffa oranges from me….made my day did that. Great fella .

That was one of many claims why he Ken & Jack didn't supposedly get on, I'd say @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler was closer to the action with regards his time at Morrisons and the two typical Yorkshire self made multi millionaires, shame Ken preferred the oval ball game.

The commercial performance of the club is noticably better. Fair play to all involved. Getting some of our merchandise available to buy in Morrisons stores is a great move.

Yep, it's a good advantage not being tied into a major manufacturer who probably wouldn't allow this in their contracts.

That's a strange attitude. Did he really believe that Leeds and Town fans would make a conscious decision to boycott shopping at Morrisons if they were to sponsor City? Seems unlikely to me.

From memory I seem to remember Morrisons inherited a couple of football based sponsorship deals when they took over Safeway. The Scottish National team and a sponsorship of one of the stands at Crystal Palace or something? Suffice to say neither were renewed.

No, it wasn’t that, we simply in those days weren’t like such as Waitrose, Tesco or Asda who had the finance to do multiple sponsorships.

Ken & Jack had a massive fall out around 1973/74 and I believe that was why he walked away and never came back. Might be wrong but @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler would know more.
