Why sack him when he has kept us up and then got us promoted to the championship? ;)

So tactically aware and motivational that his team are currently sat 15th in L2?

They did well in the FA Cup but you can’t base wanting to hire him just based on that, surely?

He has worked miracles with a team that was doomed to non league before his appointment, When he took over Newport were 11 points adrift at the bottom of league 2, His management kept them up so 15th is pretty good compared to a manager who has 7 wins in 28 games

Why would he even consider coming to City.

Plus the track record of past players as our management hasn’t brought any success recently.

He's also wrong on Rotherham, who twice had top 4 budgets in league one.

He's done a cracking job has Flynny. Well done to him. I hope Newport support him and give him the time and investment (whether in players, training or whatever) that enables him to push on.

    Good luck to him

Go on then Monkey, how do you know he had a top4 budget (twice)? You’re their accountant, right?

In his 1st season in charge of Rotherham, he guided them to promotion from League2 without spending a penny on transfer fees. In fact he ended the season +£370k after selling Grabban to Bournemouth.

He spent £159k in his 1st season in League1, finishing 4th and winning the PO final. So in his 2yrs at that point, he was still £211k in profit on transfers, delivering back to back promotions. What worth were those 2 promotions and did that offset any wage bills spent during those 2 seasons?

Now in the Championship, this is where they then spent big. And even then, after taking into consideration their player sales, they still only ended with a circa £170k loss in the transfer market.

In his 2nd season in the Championship (2015/16), he was replaced in the September.

So I ask again Monkey, how the frig did he manage to have a top4 budget TWICE in League1, when he only spent one season in that league....!

I think it might be YOU that is “wrong on Rotherham”!!!!!

Maybe @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey is talking about wage budget rather than transfer budget. I don't know the answer but did they sign people on free transfers, out of contract etc?

You’ve completely missed the point. He said and I quote “... twice had top4 budgets in League1”. Rotherham, under Evans, only spent 1 season in League1 so impossible to have 2 top 4 budgets. No?

And as I’ve said, how does he know what their player budget was? And for that matter, what their net spend was for those seasons.

Surely if he’s going to tell me I’m wrong, I have every right to ask him to back his claim up?

You are missing my point. He didn't say budget for what. You read it as transfer budget, I read it as wage budget.

Steve Evans and 'not spending' go together as well as Pep Guardiola and non-league football, I'm afraid.

You only have to do direct comparisons with rival clubs to see that he requires that financial advantage to succeed.

As for his Rotherham days, all I'll say is, Parky's targets were all about "waiting to see what other offers come in" and leaving decision until the last minute.

Evans' signings couldn't sign fast enough, despite fierce competition.

How much do you reckon Evans threw at Kari Arnison considering Aberdeen offered him 'exceptionally good terms' prior to him leaving the SPL club?

I'd love to actually see the wage budget at Rotherham, but we never will; we'll just have to settle knowing that their chairman Tony Stewart pumped in £30m in 5 years, and despite the fact they got a new stadium, the fact was it was way more than he expected to pay.

    I wonder why...

Put it this way, Evans may not have been the ONLY manager to pay sky high wages (relatively speaking) whilst at Rotherham, but he moved there from League One Crawley for a reason... and it wasn't because he backed his frugal instincts...

There are some silly articles, as there was seven years ago when Parky got similar abuse

Fact is aren't we around 10th in the last 15 games table?

Did we lose on Saturday? Because I saw us dominate a second half against one of the form teams and made there very good attack look one dimensional

Look, I know the last year has been hard, but can you stop thinking that there is some magical solution around the corner

We've been spoilt for five seasons. It's like the Walsall fans said last season (after we blew the 3-0 lead) when did we become so much better than everyone else, that we feel we've a devine right to success? They've survived in this division for about ten decades, by pulling together when they've had similar scraps

Ignore the frigging budget.... concentrate on the flaw in the argument.....!

How can he have had the 4th highest L1 budget for TWO SEASONS when they were only in L1 for ONE SEASON...!

Is it REALLY that difficult to grasp???

    He made a single mistake.

He said Rotherham were in L1 for two seasons, when it was only one.

    And you?

We have a manager that has taken us from been cut well adrift, to now within a victory of getting out of the bottom four.
Not pretty stuff, and bloody hard work to sit in the cold watching us struggle.
However, we all know why we're where we are, and it's more to do with Dick back in Germany, and Lil over in Mansfield.
Talk of Manager change is pure folly and will ensure almost certain relegation.
20th is success, nothing more, that's what we should all focus and aim for.

I'm totally hacked of that we are not either in the Championship or challenging to be there, but sadly I accept reality and save that for another season.

We were not "cut adrift" when Hopkin took over far from it, We became cut adrift under his management,
Hopkin took the reigns for the Blackpool game our 7th game on 8th September and we were in 17th place with 6 points, He has managed to win just 7 times in 26 league games possibly competing for the worst record in the whole football league

Indeed we did, and we would have under any other manager in the FL, we were in total disarray.
At least the struggling side is now on-side with each other in the quest
Sack em'high mentally will see a trip to Yeovil next season.
