If you could go back to the old Claret and Banter in 2012 , you would find exactly the same criticism of Phil Parkinson in his first season that Hopkin is getting now. Remember the Plonkinson jibes, the comments on hoofball and the clown having no plan B. Always remember a year later a poster called Clayton restored the posts after we had got to a league cup final and won promotion at Wembley. Hasty knee jerk reaction will not help City stay up, Hopkin may turn out to be no good or he may be successful but to judge him fairly he needs a summer to build his side when players are more readily available than in January.

When will some City fans learn patience?

Parky was one of our most successful managers and it’s no surprise to see he was given time to run and build the club how he saw fit.

The country is littered with clubs who’ve failed because they constantly chop and change managers. Each new manager brings his own methods, ripping up the previous blueprint and starting again, then fans become impatient because they want instant success.

Many of this squad won’t be here in the summer, Hopkin’s recruitment has just about been more good than bad. Give him time to sort the club out and put it back on a stable footing, then, once we have that, we can really judge whether he has the skills to take us forward.

Every change of manager since McCall has set us back 6 months, that’s why we’re skirting with relegation (not dismissing Edins contribution).

As for Flynn, he wouldn’t be given the time to turn this ship around. I’ve a feeling, just like Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, some clubs are just a good fit for some managers.

Can I refer you all to @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler comments that it would probably take 5 years to recover from the Rahic Project. I don’t think he was specific on whether it was on field or off, but we all know the two are symbiotic with each other. Asking our manager to turn it round within 6 months is ludicrous. Of course the whole management and playing personnel are giving it their best and hope to keep us up. I find really very dissapointing that some fans are now quite prepared to park the whole responsibility at DH door!

I don't understand how people can't see or remember how bad things were!

We organised a flyover things were so bad, people boycotted games, there was talk of a billboard, marches, etc etc, but now that's dealt with Hopkin is being blamed for not turning it round even though we have indeed improved and no longer lose every game?

It WAS that bad, we have no right to recover.

After what he did at Livingston there were many people hoping he'd be appointed. Particularly when the rumour spread that apparently he'd been interviewed in the Summer.

Me too. He shouldn't be allowed in the game after what he did at Boston. He and his sidekick Rayner are a revolting spectacle in terms of behaviour off the pitch and the behaviour he encouraged on it. He gets any success from spending shed loads of the owners money like a kid in a sweet shop.
Not keen on Hurst either. Very defensive style.

So tactically aware and motivational that his team are currently sat 15th in L2?

They did well in the FA Cup but you can’t base wanting to hire him just based on that, surely?

He's also wrong on Rotherham, who twice had top 4 budgets in league one.

Indeed we did, and we would have under any other manager in the FL, we were in total disarray.
At least the struggling side is now on-side with each other in the quest
Sack em'high mentally will see a trip to Yeovil next season.

Personally I thought he would make a bigger difference earlier. I know the Jan window is not the best or easiest of times to get players in but I thought he messed up big time by not getting players in early and not getting 1st team players.

I do agree it will not have been easy when he was appointed but I still think he has had enough opportunities to turn it around. He has the tools and has been able to try sort his backroom staff out. Points wise we've improved but we are still in a relegation battle. His impact hasn't been as good imo as it should have been and for that he only has himself to blame.

well I'll be honest, and I'm under no illusions just how bad things had gotten, I joint founded a protest group ffs, but I expected Hopkin to do better after Edin had left. we had an initial bounce in that period where we scored a lot of goals and got decent wins, but we've absolutely regressed since then, and we've looked poor again.

im on the fence but erring towards the side of he should be doing a little better.

Flynn has spoken over the weekend about how much Newport (the place and the club) means to him. Just why would he walk away from all that to join the utter shambles that is BCFC? The fact that he played here is utterly irrelevant.

Wrong on Evans, his spend with Crawley is notorious.

They bought their way out of non league.

I think bringing Hopkin in during the closed season once (Simon Grayson was not taking the job) with the players he wanted to bring in could have seen us in a far better position, but unfortunatly the situation change dramatically when Rahic realised he could have far more input with a yes man (Micheal Collins) at the helm than he could ever hope to have with a tried and tested manager with experiance.

He's done a cracking job has Flynny. Well done to him. I hope Newport support him and give him the time and investment (whether in players, training or whatever) that enables him to push on.

    Good luck to him

Steve Evans and 'not spending' go together as well as Pep Guardiola and non-league football, I'm afraid.

You only have to do direct comparisons with rival clubs to see that he requires that financial advantage to succeed.

As for his Rotherham days, all I'll say is, Parky's targets were all about "waiting to see what other offers come in" and leaving decision until the last minute.

Evans' signings couldn't sign fast enough, despite fierce competition.

How much do you reckon Evans threw at Kari Arnison considering Aberdeen offered him 'exceptionally good terms' prior to him leaving the SPL club?

I'd love to actually see the wage budget at Rotherham, but we never will; we'll just have to settle knowing that their chairman Tony Stewart pumped in £30m in 5 years, and despite the fact they got a new stadium, the fact was it was way more than he expected to pay.

    I wonder why...

Put it this way, Evans may not have been the ONLY manager to pay sky high wages (relatively speaking) whilst at Rotherham, but he moved there from League One Crawley for a reason... and it wasn't because he backed his frugal instincts...

We have a manager that has taken us from been cut well adrift, to now within a victory of getting out of the bottom four.
Not pretty stuff, and bloody hard work to sit in the cold watching us struggle.
However, we all know why we're where we are, and it's more to do with Dick back in Germany, and Lil over in Mansfield.
Talk of Manager change is pure folly and will ensure almost certain relegation.
20th is success, nothing more, that's what we should all focus and aim for.

I'm totally hacked of that we are not either in the Championship or challenging to be there, but sadly I accept reality and save that for another season.
