Stats are widely used and create an accurate picture but don't always tell the whole story. Stats will show Cheltenham had 77% possession but did bugger all with it. It would suggest we struggled but we were in fact pretty comfortable all game.

A couple of points about those stats: please note, first, my post a little later in that thread in which I looked at how many points we (and the rest of the top-7) had lost because of pens/og's, and second, that I believe those stats are more for amusement's sake than anything else. The idea that one can just add (or subtract) a goal from a match for some arbitrary reason and yet leave everything else in the match the same is not, I think, a viable one.

Take last night's match, for example. Given Cheltenham's goal, then thanks to that penalty we got one point rather than none, and Cheltenham lost two. But it was a soft call. Take it away, and would the match have remained a 0-0? Would Cheltenham have scored anyways? Leave it in, and take away Devitt's red. Would we then have won 1-0? It's a nice way to exercise the imagination, but I wouldn't go further than that.

Whatever people think of the performance yesterday we started the way many of the fans have been asking for on the front foot it was more direct with Connolly Devitt and Cooke looking promising in midfield. Of course the flip side of this is that we will be more open at the back.
I think with a decent finisher alongside Donaldson we can do well

How about a finisher who has scored 23 goals in league two this season?

Don't be silly. We wouldn't know how to accommodate a finisher like that within our safety first style of football! ;)
