I don’t care who comes or what the motive is or what shirt they wear this match is about one thing. Raising money for a great cause

Just in case anyone forgot the reason for this game, its esentially a fund raiser for two guys who suffer from motor nerones disease and the foundation thats part of it. The fact that over 20,000 are contributing to this worhwhile cause top trumps any other argument.

You are allowed to enjoy the opposition in a friendly, because it is a game between teams trying to achieve a common cause - sometimes that is fitness and game time, other times it is to raise money for a specific cause.

It is not us Vs them in any meaningful sense, the result doesn't matter a single bit.

People who get worked up over friendlies, aside from criticising organisation like last summer, are trying too hard.

One of the hardest videos i've had to watch, the bravery of both individuals is astounding. Not gonna lie it brought tears to my eyes. I implore everyone to watch it, you'll understand just what this game to today was all about.

Let's hope so a salutary reminder that in the end football doesn't really matter. It's only a game.

Get the bloody thing open, every available seat needs to be accessible for this game. An amazing cause for a legend of the club coupled with the worldwide selling power of Liverpool ensures a stadium sellout if all seats are up for grabs. I'm shocked that anyone didn't think it would be this popular.

    Okay.

    What's your point.

They don't put Children in Need on the TV and use people you've never heard of to try to raise money, do they?

People give more for good causes at a particular event or on a particular occasion if there's something to really concentrate people's focus on that event or occasion.

Naturally all these people going to the game could donate to the MND at any given time, for no reason whatsoever, but you don't raise large amounts at a single given time without a bit of a showcase.

Are you absolutely brand new to the concept of charity in a capitalist society or something?

Yep, and it really shouldn't need pointing out.

Why people are making this a question of WHY people are attracted to the game really is missing the point entirely.

"Are you going to watch Bradford or Liverpool?" - totally irrelevant.

"Do you really care about the charity or do you just want to attend the spectacle? - wholly nonsensical and utterly redundant.

The aim is to raise money for a charity.

The game should be judged on that point ALONE, because at no point has anybody claimed the game is a popularity contest between two clubs, or that it must be attended by hardcore charity donators only.

Yes, there's a reason we aren't playing Bolton or Rochdale - because they wouldn't raise as much money for charity.

End of - and I feel justified using 'end of', because it is the ENTIRE point.

Ace posting. I am completely non plussed with this argument. Why on earth do ppl care about who sits where? What colours they are wearing? This isn’t about either club, it is a charity match to raise money.

It’s going to be a great occasion how often have we seen Valley parade full. Let’s hope the weather is good it will be very colourful ground and a rousing atmosphere I hope Some of Stephens old teammates will be there as well. A lot of money raised and what a difference to our usual pre season stuff

The wider City of Bradford will also benefit from this game. Pubs will be rammed, restaurants busy, hotels booked.
Millions of pounds spent on a Sunday is huge for its economy.

Yes football is tribal, and if this was a competitive match, obviously you would have a point, but it isn’t even a proper friendly. When someone from the football family needs our support we come together as one. We only have to look at our memorial in May, several different football clubs laying their colours on our memorial. It is a sign to me that no matter what the rivalry that there is between clubs, we put them to one side. If ‘they sky armchair supporters’ as you call them don’t know our Stephen then by the time that football match finishes they will.

Similar story. My brother-in-law was an arm-chair following Man Utd fan. I gave him my ticket to watch City v Liverpool in our last match of our first season in the PL as I couldn’t make it. He saw Wetherall score THAT goal and has been a season ticket holder himself since. He took my sister and their son to Wembley for the League Cup final and they loved it so much, all 3 of them go now.

There wasn’t a City fan there that clapt the Liverpool goals its a myth. Any clapping were Liverpool fans in the home sections, of which there were plenty. Nothing to see here.

Must be so hard for Darby to see Rimmer as he is now and know that that will be him at some point. Not sure how he holds it together

He is making a complete embarrassment of himself, I'm afraid.

I mean, we've all formed stupid opinions before, but when they're ripped to shreds by pretty much everyone around us, most of us with an IQ above that of a regurgitated sock are capable of reforming those opinions.

It's part of being a well rounded human being.

I worry this poster isn't one of those.

Deary me. How bitter and twisted can you get. I am glad you are "thinking about" making a donation. The only positive from your miserable post is that someone who enjoyed the game went instead and as it was a sell out the Darby Rimmer Foundation maximised their funds
