    You are allowed to enjoy the opposition in a friendly, because it is a game between teams trying to achieve a common cause - sometimes that is fitness and game time, other times it is to raise money for a specific cause.

    It is not us Vs them in any meaningful sense, the result doesn't matter a single bit.

    People who get worked up over friendlies, aside from criticising organisation like last summer, are trying too hard.

    There are sone people with a very strange outlook on life mate, and on here is no exception. If you can find a negative from todays proceeding then you need to re evaluate the priorities in your life.

    Didn't go today (opted for cricket torture...) so interested on who stood out. Can you see us doing deals with any of the trialists?

    A mate of mine said he wasn't going to the game because he doesn't 'do' friendlies - but he donated to charity, and looks forward to the proper games.

    That's fair enough.

    But he isn't going to comment like a buffoon and say silly things about it.

    If people can't abide football as a free and easy pursuit purely for fun and charity, fine, but others can and shouldn't be criticised for cheering a goal for either side, penalty, tap in, deflection, whatever.

    Well done to any City fan that went, any Liverpool fan, or any casual observer who doesn't really invest themselves in either club - DOES NOT MATTER.

    Today had one purpose, and fulfilled it immaculately.

    Nortey was the only trialist who impressed me, and he was playing out of position too.

    I quite enjoyed this afternoon. I thought Tyler French looked very composed and certainly wasn't overawed by the size of the crowd. Riley impressed as well, as did Nortei Nortey. Both of our keepers made some good saves.
    No way was it a penalty, I thought the foul on Donaldson was at least a foot outside the area, but Doyle buried the penalty very well.
    It was good to see Darby and the fantastic reception for him and Rimmer. I was very impressed that James Milner's foundation presented a £30,000 donation to the Darby Rimmer Foundation and another £10,000 to the MND Association. A fantastic gesture.

    Edit: I forgot to mention Palmer who played very well first half.

    My thoughts;

    I was in the NW corner, was a few that cheered Liverpool goals, nobody cares. I enjoyed seeing some of the quality the Liverpool team had.

    Vaughan and Donaldson very strong lads and will make the ball stick.

    Tyler French a real prospect.

    Palmer has a great delivery.

    Thought Scannel and Henley linked up well at times.

    Only a pre season game but we showed a bit of quality in small glimpses, plenty to be positive about.

    For what it’s worth;

    Gibson looked good in central midfield. Surprised it was him when I realised.

    Palmer looks good on the ball and against a less imposing midfield he will be good.

    French looked composed when he came on. Good on ball and came striding out with it

    Hornby looked solid in second half in net. Very routine but did it all well. No dramas with him. Good competition for O’Donnell

    O’Connor did well in the second half.

    Wood doesn’t look fit. akpan doesnt look fit. Mellor is a not a cB unless we are desperate.

    Harsh to judge some on today but you can tell they will not be ready. Patrick being one. Who was the bald guy who came on at half time with green boots, and got subbed with 10 or so to go? He was abysmal

    Don't bite mate, what could be better than watching a pre-season game in great weather, full house for a great cause.
    Bowyer will have found out more today against a pretty good Liverpool side than he ever would playing the likes of Guiseley or Harrogate Town.
    With the ball it was men and boys, even their youngsters looked very comfortable and the movement off the ball was what you'd expect from a Liverpool team.

    Bowyer was under no illusions before the game - he even joked in his press conference that they hadn't let the players do any ball work last week because they knew they wouldn't see anything of the ball today! I think like you say he will have learnt a lot more from today than from any game against non league opposition and I think overall, he will have been pleased with what he saw.

    Doyles contribution in the second half was very good for me he never stopped working trying to win the ball, goodness knows what position Bowyer was asking him to play looked like he'd been asked to play the number 10 role he was coming to the edge of our box to get the ball

    Is that a serious comment @BL, we were never going to get anything from the game maybe a good beating, apart from that I think most would say what a good day out and a very good effort with regards the Darby Rimmer MND foundation, plenty of money raised, and even in defeat Bowyer will have seen plenty to take back to Rawdon Meadows on Monday..

    Agreed. That's why I didn't realise he was playing, because he was so deep. I can't see the point of him playing in the number 10 role when he's not that type of player. Would prefer to sell him and buy a proper number 10, instead of just playing him out of position for the sake of it.

    This was a charity game not a friendly. And there have been occasions where I have applauded an opponents goal but only if it’s tremendous. I support Bradford but I also support football

    I though the same with regards Vaughan playing the lone role in the first half, maybe because it was Liverpool it would have been pointless to play two up front and two (Patrick & Scannell) wide men, even the team Liverpool put out today you could see they were very comfortable on the ball this is implemented from an very early age, they looked so comfortable with the ball and when they did play it there was usually two or three options.
