I bet throughout Europe there was hooligans so why target us ?????? They banned us because the actions of one certain club ............ still no doubt this sort of stuff won’t happen once they reach another final will it ..............

Regardless of the poor organisation and farcical running of the game, people jumping over fences should never be excused. That's the point I'm trying to make here.

There's clearly blame on ALL sides and that should be included in the reports instead of just looking to blame the organisers alone.

 

Yes why wouldn't I with regards to the clip I was commenting on. It seems I was correct that they were indeed local lads chancing it and not Liverpool fans. And I wasn't excusing them in any way whatsoever.

As for the wider debate-like you I will wait and see what comes out of the investigation. I am certain though that all sides contributed in some way to the whole evenings events but to what extent remains quite unclear.

This thread seems to have gone a little quiet after the links and video I posted.

Are we still claiming that Liverpool fans weren't at causing at least some of the problems by climbing fences and trying to force their way into the ground or has the narrative now changed to the decreased number of false tickets first claimed by the authorities?

 

I see you are 46 years old. So you weren't born when Leeds were banned from Europe after the 1975 European Cup Final in Paris. You were two when Man U were similarly banned in 1977 after rioting at a EUFA Cup match in France. Note that these were individual bans for those clubs - not like the blanket ban that followed Heysel - because the English football hooligan problem was still in its relative infancy and hadn't got to the ubiquitous stage it reached in the early 80s.

During the 70s and 80s there was relatively little football hooliganism on the continent (although it has developed since). The concept of football hooliganism was given a name on continental Europe - 'The English Disease'.

The following quote sums up the situation pretty well:
"Certainly it is a long time since followers of the Scottish national team or [Scotland's] great club sides have caused the sickening mayhem which English fans have produced in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Spain and Switzerland in the past three years. So the blanket ban on English clubs after Heysal was the culmination of over a decade of British fans from multiple clubs rampaging through European football, causing mayhem. It was not a one-off decision caused by one club; it was the last straw; it was EUFA saying, 'enough is enough' to English football as a whole, and rightly so.

Perhaps that should have been the default position right at the start then.

You can't dish out blame to one side and then when you're shown video evidence of the opposite suddenly claim you're "waiting for results of the investigation" before commenting.

 

So in the quotes I have agreed a number of times that Liverpool fans have done stuff wrong and there is blame all round and also put blame on the organisers. And said we should wait for the outcome. So what exactly are you wanting me to agree to?

And quite rightly so. I have a friend who doesn't watch Liverpool regularly , but because he has money he can get Champions League final tickets which seems false to me. Giving the club 15k tickets and going through the club means proper fans get those tickets

 

Even though I have said numerous times that there is blame all around and we should wait for the investigation to see how it pans out and who in the end is to blame for it all
