I agree it's a major problem at the Club and yet again considering the increased focus on the science side, most surprising. But on a lighter note perhaps we could open a clinic for such injuries on Hamm Strasse..

I like Hamm Strasse! Just to go back to your 'increased focus on the science side, most surprising', I would say it is utterly shocking. Whatever it is we do at VP is CLEARLY not up to standard.

That was one of the things that Sparks said would be addressed last summer, after having players missing for a big chunk of last season through injuries he said that fitness records would be assessed prior to signings being made and that improvements would be made to the training and fitness behind the scenes. Fast forward to this season and if anything we have regressed on the fitness front and we gamble on Lee Angol who has a history of misfortune and is more injury prones than Darren Anderton.

Can you always address injuries though? They happen at the highest level too, with incredible amounts of data and information at hand.

It just probably wasn't super sensible to pretend we could fix an issue that is often dependent on luck.

I get what you're saying Jon, but either we have a pool of unbelievably unlucky players or our fitness, conditioning and medical side is not what it should be. Or maybe a combination of both. Whatever, it continues to be a worryingly ongoing story that if anything has got worse this season.

Read a piece in The i yesterday about Brentford signing Erikksen. One line really stuck in my mind about why this one was rare...'Brentford usually plans their transfers two or three windows ahead'. I nearly dropped me bowl of porridge. Can you imagine City ever EVER planning that far ahead?

You can mitigate soft tissue injuries with the right preparation and individual conditionings programs

Well we do plan..unfortunately we don't come up with the finances to meet our targets. Pointless really.

You certainly can. You can also mitigate by not allowing players like Angol to play as many minutes as he was doing after injury. Unfortunately we did not appear to have another player available/recruited another to allow that. Hopefully this transfer window has addressed his absences.

I think Delf will surprise a few a be much better than we had, always thought he was a handful against us, here's hoping anyhow.

Before this thread closes, something that bemuses me. Folk going on about us not signing a proven goalscorer. Now correct me if I'm wrong but clubs don't let proven goalscorers go for free in January. You can buy them due to demand for such a commodity being very high in the transfer window but as a rule no one gives them away. But as a club our remit from Rupp is to make sure he doesn't have to put any money in so how people thought we were going to come up with this magical goalscorer is beyond me.

You can loan them though, see Andy Cook.

But wouldn't it be nice if we had an owner who had seen the benefits of sales of McBurnie and Wyke and was willing to invest for the long-term in talented players with potential resale value?

I would’ve thought his agent said stay. He’s out of contract in the summer and is already attracting interest from PL, Championship and Div 1 clubs.

Cook is not a good example, he'd only scored 9 in 43 at Mansfield and had already been loaned out once so was surplus to requirements. As far as I know he's never been involved in a team getting promoted from league 2.
However I completely agree with your last paragraph and it's the main reason we are failing so badly. Rochdale sold their two main saleable assets in January, off the back of this they made 3 paid transfers to bolster the squad. The money we earned from the McBurnie sell on was used to offset Rahics spending spree.
Honestly, the day Rupp does decide to part ways with us will be like having the clouds lifted from above VP. We can't guarantee a new owner will be any better but they sure as hell can't be any worse.

Hornby superb in a great 1-0 win away from home for Colchester. A player we had no need to replace while other positions go begging
