I suppose you could interpret it that we're pushovers. Alternatively you could say we've set down a marker. Think you can turn up, go through the motions and get paid handsomely every week - well we'll cancel your contract and move on. Whichever way you look at it we've acted decisively for once. Let's face it last season was badly affected by a different player in similar circumstances that we made a right pigs ear of managing. Definitely done better this time.

I fail to see how the club have done any better. They've known this has been an issue for months, yet did nothing about it until after the salary cap came in - hardly decisive by any stretch of the imagination. The club made statements about playing hard ball and not letting him go to a rival without significant compensation ......and then let him go to a rival without any compensation - never mind significant. It suggests we learnt nothing from last year imo.

Were in good company ;) :

Sánchez’s £560,000-a-week contract with United has just under two years to run, but the Chile striker has agreed to effectively rip up that deal in return for a pay-off ahead of a free transfer to Inter, dated August 2020 so was his original contract at Manchester United a 4 year contract ?.

Don't move the goalposts thats not what you posted, you quoted : "At no point has Vaughan given an indication he would happily sit out two years" and McCall quoted that's exactly what he told him hence my copy and paste.

McCall added: “We could have made him sit here and pick his money up but we were not getting anything off him. James made that very clear.

“I’d have a committed, positive James Vaughan all day long in the dressing room and on the pitch.

“But we weren’t getting that – and James made it quite clear we weren’t going to get it.

    We'll leave it there.

Oh, I see your angle now.

It wasn't as obvious as you thought.

I've already covered that, to be fair - force Vaughan to sit out until the transfer window shuts. If Tranmere don't make a bid, I cannot believe he would happily sit out doing nothing for two years.

He would be 34, Dave, by the time his contract expired. With two years of ZERO game time, he would be worth absolutely nothing to any other club and he'd have effectively ruined the final years of his career.

There is no way that would have happened.

The ultimatum would have been: Either attract a bid, or buck your ideas up and put yourself in the shop window. Whatever his motivation for getting back to playing football, there is absolutely no way he would have sat out for two years. It would be career suicide.

Eventually i'd like to think we would stop shooting ourselves in the feet but i won't hold my breath. Its just a constant of error after error. The way Vaughan has conducted himself leaves a sour taste in the mouth but its probably time to draw a line under it and move on. Thankfully the club is rid of yet another waste of space.

I don't get how anyone can interpret releasing our top scorer and letting him go to a rival after Doyle-gate as anything but a farce, but here we are reading defences of those actions.

Well, according to Stuart he is banging the doors trying to get strikers at a higher level to drop down to L2.

I am sure it will end well, after Doyle and Vaughan what could possibly go wrong.

I've already commented on how badly run our club is but the damage was done when we signed him. A three year deal for a player who never lasts that long at a club and who had spat his dummy out in less than half a season of being here. I mentioned a few times early on last season that his body language stank the place out. McCall is blamless here, he tried but when a player doesn't want to be here what can you do? I can't think of one instance where a club has held on to a player who didn't want to there. Yes we've had our pants down but he's gone. Time to see who his replacement is.

You are forgetting the club might not be able to afford to have our highest paid player not playing for two years!

The wages he was on we couldn't afford to have him playing either. With the way football is now no league 2 footballer would be commanding that sort of salary.

No I'm not, because it wouldn't play out like that.

But fair enough, there will be no objections if Connor Wood pulls a similar stunt because he wants to move to Port Vale on a free?

Theres a difference between being scummy and the club being wealthy. No one is saying JV done right here. It does suck but unfortunately thats the realities of L2
