Joey Beauchamp "I signed the contract at Heathrow airport, 45 minutes away, not realising how far away West Ham actually was. It was just too much. I'd just bought my house in Oxford and there lay the problem."

I live 10 mins down the road from Vaughan and on a match day (Saturday) it takes about 80 mins each way. Granted, at rush hour, through the week it takes 2+ hours each way but he knew that when he signed! I'm not arsed he's gone as he was clearly a bad apple but, as many here have already said, the fact we did this deal after the salary cap came in is tantamount to negligence from the club. We've gone from counting half of a 3k (allegedly) per week wage towards the cap to needing to count all of it, assuming we pay the same amount to his replacement (and yes, I know that's a big assumption!). Just a tiny bit of foresight and financial planning from someone in power and we could have avoided that. I'd be hauled over the coals at my work for making such a mistake!

Vaughan is being painted quite rightly as the bad guy in all this which on the outside and judging by his record with his past clubs is quite right there are right ways and wrong ways to leave a club
We were aware of his past record at the time we signed him and to offer a 3 year deal was madness of course Vaughan was going to be delighted with it and more than happy to sign where was the sense and due Dilligence from our side.
We seem to have form for upsetting strikers Doyle being another example maybe the club should look at (as well as everything else) it's recruitment policy and the way it treats strikers
We were more than happy to ship him out to Tranmere in the first place (creating an opportunity for him) to avoid upsetting Bowyer that was another backward decision seeing as we sacked him only a matter of weeks later who knows had we have had the balls to get rid of Bowyer first we may have been looking forward to next season with a forward line of Doyle and Vaughan under Stuart
There are two sides to every story and the club never seem to learn by their mistakes let's hope the new CEO whoever it is shakes the club from top to bottom it certainly needs it

In the T&A McCall said, “He’s got a young family, he’s had four and a half months with them and before that he’d be back home at 1.30pm after training at Tranmere“.

I would guess it would be perhaps 45/50 minutes more to return from Bradford, especially if you are travelling in the middle of the day.

If it takes him two and a half hours to get to Apperley Bridge, then it means leaving around 7.00/7.15 pm.

Bet there aren’t many on here who can fit work and travel into less than seven and a half hours a day.

My heart goes out to him. Poor exploited individual!

It wasn't a matter of weeks mate, it was days. Vaughan went to Tranmere on 29th Jan, Bowyer was sacked on the 3rd Feb.

There will be ways around it. Bonuses are still payable for cup games, I don't think there is any stipulation around how much can be paid and when so in theory, we could sign someone on '3k' a week, but pay them 1.5k officially and then a 78k bonus for playing in the first round of the Capital One Cup ;)

1,000,000 % Vaughan cares if he plays or not.

He even cares where he plays, and the style of football.

And that's the crux of the issue.

WE hold the cards because HE needs to be playing.

At no point has Vaughan given an indication he would happily sit out two years. We just didn't apply the heat, and gave up for reasons I can't fathom.

I'll repeat: our next centre forward who fancies a move will know beyond doubt he can easily engineer it no matter how badly we need them.

    We are pushovers.

Oh well, scrap that idea then. No way are we going to be able to convince any potential signings that we will progress in the cup.

Imagine your first sentence is not true.

Lots of speculation on this matter. Only the club knows what the final deal was.

Note that his temporary loyalties are now with Tranmere. Changes his mind more than @Fordy117@Fordy117

Have a read of this :

McCall added: “We could have made him sit here and pick his money up but we were not getting anything off him. James made that very clear.

“I’d have a committed, positive James Vaughan all day long in the dressing room and on the pitch.

But we weren’t getting that and James made it quite clear we weren’t going to get it.

I'm sure you can work it out Jon if you try,

    You quote :

At no point has Vaughan given an indication he would happily sit out two years. We just didn't apply the heat, and gave up for reasons I can't fathom.

Yet McCall says the opposite in his T&A article,

McCall added: “We could have made him sit here and pick his money up but we were not getting anything off him. James made that very clear.

“I’d have a committed, positive James Vaughan all day long in the dressing room and on the pitch.

But we weren’t getting that and James made it quite clear we weren’t going to get it.

In theory we could have just stuck him on the bench for 90 minutes. We could have even picked him to start but you ain't gonna get quality performances from a player with no desire to be here. McCall made it work with Marshall but its been clear for months that Vaughan wasn't going to come back and as such should have been dealt weeks ago. He got what he wanted, we got rid of an inifective wage stealer. Yet another City signing that goes in the failure folder, something we're pretty good at these days.

Suppose we might as well stop offering long term contracts to players.

All of out contracts really just end when the player fancies quitting on us anyway.
