One reason I hate the song "Marching on together" is because we aren't....

    TA quote

McCall added: “We could have made him sit here and pick his money up but we were not getting anything off him. James made that very clear.

“I’d have a committed, positive James Vaughan all day long in the dressing room and on the pitch.

“But we weren’t getting that – and James made it quite clear we weren’t going to get it.

Under contract and refusing to work?

He was pictured at training so he won't have been refusing. His heart clearly wasn't in it though.

He gets paid a large wage for not doing anything. We lose out massively as we're paying a high salary to a player who we're not going to play. In no way is that beneficial to the club. Do you really think someone like Vaughan cares if he's playing or not? What club in their right mind wouldn't try and get rid of a high earner that won't play for the club?

He's not refusing to work. He was coming into training, he just was being negative and didn't show much commitment.

He's sulked and got his own way, that's really all.
We didn't persevere & gave away any leverage (2 yrs left in his contract) that we had.

I'm not a fan of cutting off your nose to spite your face. What on earth is the point of having an unhappy player around a club? Just so we can show him 'who's boss!!' ??

No other clubs do this. Spurs allowing Ericksen to stay until January is a classic example (and in fairness he did a lot of good for that club before the, er, domestic incidents got in the way)

It never works. Just like it didn't work when Hopkin made three players play with the youth team. Other team members see it as a contradiction that a manager is into team spirit, when they would make someone stay at the club against their will or banish them to the youth team

I'm annoyed with what's happened - but in fairness, that's just how it goes

Think you are missing the key point.

Spurs didn't let Ericksen go for free? He wanted out for 6 months and Spurs said No...He played and then Spurs sold him in Jan for I think around 22m. He was free to leave in the summer.

Coutinho wanted to leave Liverpool and like Spurs, Liverpool kept him for 6 months then sold him for 146m.

Vaughan had 2 years left on his contract and we let him go for free. See the difference? Clubs keep the player no matter what until the valuation is met. Vaughan shouldn't be let go on a free.. Poor business.

The nearer the transfer window closing the less money or indeed him wanting paying to leave would have been reduced if he was that determined to leave,

No, this is City and they are not being clear. Given all the this mess you would think that it would be the time for some straight talking Yorkshire folk, to do just that.

They won't be allowed to tell us. They'll have been warned that announcing we paid him to leave would most likely break the Internet.

Dont worry I'm very grounded with regards to our club, I've never posted we are a big club, with regards our fan base and stadium I would say visiting teams regard us as a big club, but no I cant be accused of that.
I do believe the coming season is massively different and we all know why so maybe we do need to get this season going and over to see how it plans out and where we are.

We're a League Two club though, finances are very tight. There's no guarantee the valuation with ever be met, a fee may never be paid and then at the end of the contract the player leaves.

In the meantime the player continues to train and spread negativity among the squad, picking up a large wage in the process.

By agreeing a deal with the player to terminate the contract you get rid of the problem and free up a wage to bring someone else in.

What's he going to do retire?

So basically, what we are saying is if Wood wants to leave then he can on a free?

I understand we are league 2 but we are still a business. We let Doyle go and now Vaughan. Goals in are hard to come by. It's not as easy as saying get rid of x and bring in somebody else. That's mindset is why we are in div 2.

Well let's hope Wood is not the disloyal, mercenary, disruptive tw#t that Vaughan has turned out to be

Yes very similar with regards both players holding the club to ransom actually quoting not only dont they want to play for Bradford City but name the club they want transferring to, ths rest is none sense as you know.
I cant take you seriously that you would keep the clubs top earner at home or away from playing first team football to prove a point, many might think it was a good idea but you know it was never going to be the case, a bad egg who the club tried to accommodate him but eventually agreed to let him leave, we dont know the ins and outs of the mutual agreement so no point in guessing he's gone reading Tranmere's comments this has been ongoing for a while, so to sum up I'm not that bothered hes gone it would have been good for him to honour the rest of his 24 months but that just shows the charector of the man.
