Quite right, we can take a look at these signings so far and it's pretty easy to pull them apart to be honest - but there's good reason to give Hughes the benefit of the doubt, so that's what 99 % of the City support is doing right now. The sum of the parts is greater than the whole, yadda, yadda, yadda.

But there isn't a single guarantee that we're pulling together a promotion-winning squad here, which is why it's worth remembering that this is very much the last chance saloon for Rupp and Sparks - and why anything they say needs to be either roundly ignored, or taken with a massive pinch of salt.

The two of them have achieved absolutely nothing so far on any important front (ie, football, you know, being a football club), and it's only a hail Mary managerial signing that looks like it might bear fruit that's placated everyone.

I'm one for looking for the positives in these signings right now, as long as we plug all the gaps (unlike every other season), improve on what we had in each (or most) position(s), and as long as we assemble what looks like it could be a useful side - but you're right to warn the usual lot against getting smug yet again in pre-season and assuming every move is the right one - we've been here before, been promised far too much, and given far too little.

Mark Hughes is just another good manager, at the end of the day, and we've had several that have failed already. Maybe it does feel different, but a lot of the problems remain at the club. Two of them will be dying to take credit as soon as things start to look up, but they'd be better keeping quiet and hoping the junk mail folder bails them out.

 

Fine I'll change my post to most , maybe as a fan classed as a happy clappers I see things differently, I personally always look forward to the coming season and could never not get a season ticket because it might not turn out to be the sort of season I'd hoped, I'm usually a "glass is half full" guy I can't see me changing certainly with regards my football club.

 

Two clubs very lucky not to have been wound up due to severe financial irregularities. Good example.

He didn't mention recruitment. It could be used for lots of reasons.

 

I don’t know the costings, but I’ve still never understood why we have Tuesday night games mid winter I can’t think of anything less appealing tbh. We usually schedule in 6 Tuesday night games a season, it doesn’t always work work like that with postponements etc. but they could at least put the original 6 into 3 before the clocks go back and 3 after. I know there’s the odd cup game but it’s far from impossible. Not only is it the electricity costs but you get far less pay on the day punters on a cold Tuesday night as well, I’ve been there when it’s felt like there were about 10,000 there when we’ve been in the playoffs and far less when doing poor.

I’ve said this before but I’d move the group stage Micky mouse trophy games to pre season as they do in Scotland, one or two of them are played before the clocks go back so that’s potentially 2 slots there. You’re more likely to get more pay on the day customers late September than early December imo which means more money to cover costs. Also I think our last Tuesday game was late March early April, a fair few light and warmer Tuesday nights not used, again it’s just about sensible planning by the football league, something I’m not sure they are capable of. One final thing to reduce Tuesdays is do what we’ve done twice in the last 10 years, have the first round of the league cup the Saturday before the start of the season, can’t this year due to the early start but no reason it couldn’t be a regular feature going forward, this would probably draw a bigger crowd that the first round on a Tuesday and it frees another early season Tuesday up to get a league game out of the way.

Jake must be garbage in training to continually be left out of the this squad.

 

Should be on the bench and playing on the wing replacing a tired Chapman at the very least.

 

I believe one of main attributes of a good manager is keeping an open mind. We see it time and time again from different managers (not just ours), whether it’s style or play, formation or team selections - flogging a dead horse and being stubborn at the detriment of the club - my way or no way attitude. And ofcourse the excuses are much the same everytime the team fails to win - “We need to be more clinical in front of goal” “we didn’t take our chances” “we will work on this on the training ground” So frustrating!

 

Get the first eleven right then the bench becomes less important ..

 

Probably not 'safe' enough for Hughes. These forwards who try and take opponents on and gets shots away.... no place for that here sunshine.

 

I see bits of the Bowyer reign all over again. Came in with a chance to look at all the players, knows what he needed to do and get in. Start the season decently and then results and performances start to slide off and splits opinions in fans. I didn't understand the fascination with us appointing him, great players don't necessarily make good managers. There's a long way to go yet but like you I have zero belief that he can achieve the play offs.
