He might be de-motivated given the dross that get game-time in front of him.

Does Hughes value training performances more than game performance? Gilliead must be great at sprints

Totally agree re Angol. He's shown nothing this season to say he can influence a game, unlike Oliver who has but has also suffered through only being given ten minutes here and there. If Young isn't good enough why the hell did we sign him (ditto East). We have dropped out of the top seven, Gilliead and Smallwood aren't working and neither is the 4231 but Hughes refuses to change it at home.

The issue is, if we don't start winning at home he will lose the crowd and that is what all managers since Parky have suffered. You won't get promoted by winning 30% of your home matches.

True but I thought the idea of a squad as big as ours was to utilise the sub system and mix it up but that never seems to cross MH's mind ...until it's too late most times ...

Why if they have released him?. That only happens if they offer a new contract similar or better than previous contract?

Agree the emphasis seems to be on the younger player. Good signing and adds definite pace up top. Liking what I am seeing so far on the recruitment side.

When we played FGR at VP this time, I thought he was their best player, that is the only reason I remember him. If he played well against us, he must be good.

To be fair, it doesn't actually say that, it says 7 players will leave the club. Of course the assumption is they are leaving because they weren't offered new deals, but it might be in Young's case that he was offered a deal but chose not to take it. Not saying that is the case but given we have paid some sort of fee/compensation, it seems more likely.

@Fordy117@Fordy117 are you somewhat confused by all these signings considering we train at a school FFS. What are these players standards like eh? Will be better when we own our own facilities and we can attract decent players.

If Paudie leaves then good luck to him. I'm sure we'll find another averagely good central defender and maybe they won't be so hot headed and in danger of being sent off every few games.

That's fine if the player has history of injuries, but he doesn't. Pretty much all professional footballers are going to receive a bad injury within the game at some point that keeps them out for a long period of time and this was his. I'm not even considering if he can stay fit but more along the lines of because we've seen so little of him is he good enough.

And if you can avoid all that....

Are you a parent? If the kids are settled in school with friends then maybe they want to avoid distrupting that. Obviously CV is of the same thought or he would have moved to avoid 160 mile round trip to training.

Lincoln can pay him the same/more. Are 40 miles closer and play the league above. Its a no brainer everything else aside.

Quite possibly, and i am sure Eisa can bring something to the table and Young has got some experience in and around a promoted team at the tender age of 20

Are Burton, Fleetwood , Accrington , Forest Green bigger clubs than us. No they just play at a higher level currently.
We have the potential to sustain ourselves at mid championship level.
We just need to realise that potential.
Get the ball rolling , win games on a regular basis playing decent football and the fans will come, bringing with them more income and the chance to improve further.
We reached the premiership with Geoffs borrowing and if he had not gone crazy we could have established ourselves as a lower premiership , upper championship team.
Nothing to say we can not achieve championship football again, nothing to say we will.
That is the beauty of football, you never know how it will turn out.

We finished below mid table in league 2. Don't try and tell me that wasn't mediocrity in one of the worst seasons I can remember. But hey I guess we're a bigger club than some league 1 clubs eh? I'll remember that when we're watching us play Crawley and Barrow as opposed to Sheffield Wednesday and Derby next season.

As Bronco says . optimism and hope is why you buy that season ticket. This season is always the season before a ball is kicked.
We all thought Rupp and Ruin where the guys, we all though Adams was the guy.
You never know before the season starts, but can get a good feeling, which i think many have for this upcoming battle.

    Morning gents.

I see both of your points of view. No fan whom has expectations can be defined as a happy clapper. Its natural in nature to have expectations..

Kevin, I get your point but its really not materialised over the last 3 or 4 seasons. ST numbers have reasonably held up, despite failing league positions and covid19. So I guess, and that's ultimately what I'm doing, "self fulfilling defeatism" comes from the structures within the hierarchy of OUR club, not the attitude or aptitude of City supporters.

I know both you gents have watched City longer than I have. Relatively speaking, I've had it "good" as a supporter since April 86, considering the years before me.

But I like to be considered and don't overly get into optimism. Maybe it's my gambling background, especially around the horses. I'm considerate of my opinions and what I attribute as facts/knowledge but in sport and gambling, that's only one aspect of the equation.

I guess, I love time at City with my son at both home and away games. It genuinely more important than the result, though the latter truly matters. That's my main motivation to my purchase of a season ticket.

Ha ha you must be tough to please!

having steered Morecambe up and after what he did for Plymouth I was happy to have him here. But happy was all it was.

I still pinch myself sometimes that Hughes is here, though. It’s a remarkable coup.

I hope we get a striker who we waste if he scores 27 in 36 games like Mullin
