agree with above post @bantam2708 , clean sheet was really important, been a while and as much as we love winning games, defences love clean sheets.

 

As others have said, strange game. Exeter looked very good in possesion, their winger Williams was very good, he put some cracking balls into our box, which I thought we defended really well. Exeters problem is they looked really toothless up front, apart from the save with his legs in the second half scramble, I cannot recall O'Donnell having another shot to save.

Toss up between AOC and BRE for MOTM for me, they were both equally outstanding.

I thought Henley did well, he likes to bomb forward, and the cross he supplied for Otehs goal was sublime

Three well earned points today against a good team. A couple of tough away games in the league after the cup tie at Shrewsbury.

Looking good, with some players such as Donaldson, Devitt and Palmer, and dare I say it, Doyle to return in the new year

 

I wonder if Exeter are thinking about appealing the red for the tackle on Woods?? ........ Seriously, that was a ridiculous challenge. Strangely not sure about the 2nd red, thought Connolly was probably headed into a less obvious goal scoring position.

 

Bloody hell mate, has matron given you the wrong medication, we were in League One when we got rid of Law, in this league as he showed today best player on the park IMO.

 

I thought the tackle on Wood was a clear red card. I am not so sure about the one on Connolly though. More of a fifty fifty and they had another defender, but he was much further over, so they might have argued he was a covering defender.

 

Give over. Law would walk straight into our side and they were a team who didn't come for a point or waste time but played good flowing football. I won't be surprised if they are there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

 

Thought Law was exactly like he was when he was with us. Good on the ball, keeps possession well, produces next to nothing.

 

Hard to disagree when they didn't score.

Personally, I don't miss him slowing down our counter attacks for no particular reason then passing sideways but I appreciate others will have different views.

 

Law played very well but the fact is he was poor at the end of his time with us he was poor crabbing across the pitch. And I also lost a bit of respect for him for his reaction to a nothing tackle from Cooke

 

A word for Wood who is developing into a good full back. It’s good to see

 

He was busy, often on the ball, but what did he actually do?

Had their number 11 in his pocket who had to swap wings before he had any joy.

 

Don't see why the first goal cannot be credited to Oteh. Looked his at the game and the SKY highlights seem to prove it.

 

Law hasnt changed since he was here. Tidy on the ball, plenty of sideways passing, but overall ineffective. Wouldnt swap him for Cooke or Pritchard.

 

From upper kop it looked like he tried to head it but it hit him on his side or shoulder and went in. Didn't look like an OG at all.

but the fact is he was poor at the end of his time with us he was poor crabbing across the pitch, as I said he was playing at league One level when we let him go, he was very good at carrying the ball and making yards up the pitch, exactly how McCall like to play ball retention/possession.

And I also lost a bit of respect for him for his reaction to a nothing tackle from Cooke, they had just lost a player down to 10 men, I'm at a loss to see why Cooke made a bloody stupid challenge but you lose respect for Law, he took Law from behind (excuse the pun) and did not win the ball but took the man it was a foul and he was on a yellow.

 

Just looked at the table, means nothing at this stage I know. But the reason I’m bringing it up is the other 3 relegated teams are all in the bottom half, 2 in the bottom 4. Well done Gary, it’s not as easy as some think to turn a failing team around, and we were even below them 3.

Also agree about Wood gets better by the game imo.

 

I'd say it was his team mates who let him down (although his miss first half let us off the hook) as I've posted the best team at Valley Parade for me, at times carved us open for fun and usually Law was very much a part of it.
As a visiting team they tried to play football, didn't time waste, made one or two poor tackles and got penalised for them, but all round good to watch thank goodness they couldn't finish.

 

Don’t know why our fans boo’d Law after the red. It was a clear yellow, stupid by Cooke and both Gary and Cooke himself know that. Cooke has since come out and apologised.
