Ok, gold might disappear into the fabric with our amber colour, but I think it would look classy.

I can recall my son, maybe 10+ years ago, getting a Malaga shirt with all the ST holders names woven into the shirt's fabric. A few years after that he got a Real Betis centenery shirt with all the players names over the 100 years woven into the shirt. Nice touches IMO.

But this is different, it's cack...............it's a nothingness deflecting attention from where the club finds itself. I'd prefer honesty................. and to sell "heritage numbers", not woven into the shirt but tacked on to a shirt, and worn by any passing through player is taking the piss.

Just give me a decent Bradford City kit, a team fighting for it and I'll consider getting back onboard.

A-ha -- that will also explain why you don't have the above-mentioned Guy -- he was in a Football League Group Cup match in 1981. The above-mentioned Burton as well played in the next season's version of that competition. Gwinnett was in the Freight Rover Trophy/Associate Members' Cup matches of 1984/5.

This whole question of what to include and what to leave out would make for an interesting debate. I fall on the more inclusive side, but do see the problems this brings. The Checkatrade matches worry me, for instance, because of the inclusion of U21 sides, and the general lack of seriousness with which some sides take the competition. But I don't see that one could eliminate the recent years without eliminating the whole competition -- doing it by halves would really mess up the player stats.

Well if your going to ignore the Associate Members Cup, The Full members Cup, The Northern Challenge Cup and the Intertoto Cup (whilst including the equally tin pot JPT) it is no wonder there are differences
My list includes every game where at least all teams in the division City were in we’re eligible to take part
(Therefore excluding the Yorkshire Cup games)

The 1938/9 Northern Challenge Cup produced the only the second (and last) Cup trophy the club has ever won and is a worthy inclusion if only for that

You are absolutely spot on re: several issues. The Checkatrade thing is a concern and it's fast losing validity as a competition but for years - over 30 in fact - it wasn't like this, with U21 teams.

We could discuss it for hours, but I just felt there had to be a sensible boundary, a line if you will.. otherwise we'd end up including the West Riding County Cup from many moons ago if we carried on and on! The only one that came close to being included was the FL Group Cup because to some, it was considered a precursor to the current EFL Trophy.. but they were, and are, different competitions.

I have included the Intertoto. I'm really sorry you feel that way - and I guess I didn't realise when doing it that it would create such differences.

I'm from a generation where these four trophies have consistently - permanently, in fact - been the only ones the club have competed for. I just worry that by including other tournaments, you create a precedent that results in you essentially including every single tournament the club has ever participated in, if that makes sense!

Every player that has ever played for City in a competitive first team game should be included.

The joys of trying to organise / rationalise / classify material!

I do agree with BWWB in the case of which matches to include, and for the same reasons. I suppose that makes my boundaries first-team matches in League-sanctioned competitions. Plus, of course, the InterToto Cup.

So in your view - and I’m happy to be guided! - exactly what list of competitions ARE you including?

League, FA Cup, and League Cup are obvious; after that let the debates begin!

First, the play-offs. I include these, under their own heading -- not part of the regular league schedule, but still proper first-team matches, affecting League standings.

Next, the "Minor Cups." All of these involved first-teams, and fellow League clubs provided the opposition. I stuck the InterToto cup into this category as well, as I really didn't want to add an extra pair of columns, mostly blank, to my spreadsheets. Appearances and goals have all been totted up and I just have a "Minor Cups" category rather than individual categories for each competition.

(I include the various names these cup competitions have gone under just to be absolutely clear.)

    1) Division 3 North Challenge Cup

    2) Football League Group Cup:
    i) Football League Group Cup (1981/2)
    ii) Football League Trophy (1982/3)
    3) Associate Members' Cup / Football League Trophy (from 1992):
    i) Associate Members' Cup (1983/4)
    ii) Freight Rover Trophy (1984/5-1986/7)
    iii) Sherpa Vans Trophy (1987/8-1988/9)
    iv) Leyland DAF Cup (1989/90-1990-91)
    v) Autoglass Trophy (1991/2-1993/4)
    vi) Auto Windscreens Shield (1994/5-1999/2000)
    vii) LDV Vans Trophy (2000/1-2005/6)
    viii) Johnstone’s Paint Trophy (2006/7-2015/6)
    ix) Checkatrade Trophy (2016/7 onwards)
    4) Full Members’ Cup:
    i) Full Members' Cup (1985/6-1986/7)
    ii) Simod Cup (1987/8-1988/9)
iii) Zenith Data Systems Cup (1989/90-1991/2)

    5) the InterToto Cup

One man's opinion, at any rate, of what to include.

Hope the numbers are stitched on because with the shite quality of the shirts they will fall off after the first or second wash .

I for one, think it is a very good idea, always liked it on the Cricket shirts. Credit to you for all your research and the idea of it.

Whilst you are entitled to include whatever you want in your list it cannot be right to claim the list of competitions should only include leagues or cups that the current generation can remember
I’m not quite old enough to remember Division 3 North and South and many will not remember that there used to be a 4th division
You are quite happy to include these defunct competitions - and therefore you seem to ignore your own rules
However to include the same players twice (as highlighted in my OP) surely cannot be right

We should include trialists. They're part of the bantamsfamily too.

That's no bad claim to fame is it ? One appearance v Chelsea. I'd take that if that was all it amounted to ?

Agreed. Heck, I'd be shameless enough to take a substitute appearance against Macclesfield in the Dog & Duck, er Checkatrade, Cup! Bit late though, now, unless the League decides to allow over-55 sides in, and the only qualification needed for players is a pulse...
