Yes I had forgotten about that. Don’t want to jinx but I think we have finally found the keeper we have needed for years. Once you have a decent keeper I don’t care what anyone says you’ve done half the job.

Great punch from a corner under immense pressure on Saturday shows he knows how to command his box.

Won’t be head long if he carries on playing how he is, can’t remember a better permanent keeper we’ve had this century tbh. If crap like Bass can get to Sunderland then I’d expect offers to come in for him.

Each to their own, I didn’t think he had enough core skills. Every keeper should be a decent shot stopper it’s the basic skill like an outfield player dribbling with the ball. It’s other things he struggled with, especially coming off his line and looking like conceding everytime he did and passing the ball out of play regularly.

I'm happy that Lewis is more composed and more controlled in his box. Pickford was rash and is prone still. Lewis, in a small sample, is more controlled.

BTW, I'm not comparing the relatives qualities, just sticking up for our current custodian

Honestly, he'd be crazy to move. He's 24, played only 1 season of first team football, and is doing a great job where he is.

He should focus on getting plenty of appearances under his belt this season, and not even consider a move before January 2024 in my opinion.

That's 18 months of being number 1 here, and you could see how much his performance today meant to both him and Doyle.

I imagine he's seen the last of sitting on a bench or being in a reserve team unless he makes the wrong move.

Not sure Gent had much to do with identifying Lewis as a potential signing. Hughes knew him from his time at Southampton.

Good game from Lewis yesterday. He reminds me of another unknown keeper we picked up, who we sold for £1million after just 16 games i believe. Mark Schwartzer I think Lewis is just as good.

Different level. Schwartzer was a championship keeper at the time and had played in the German top league. Its far too early to be comparing Lewis to him.

I get what you’re saying General but to go back to to Pickford, there were plenty of posters on our previous forums predicting “greatness” and possible caps for him. (I wasn’t one of them). So perhaps we are just blessed with posters who can spot a keeper. Anyway, if he ever achieves “Rouven” type greatness, I’ll join in with the Lewis for England stuff. Meanwhile, great to have a keeper who most seem to think is pretty good.

edit: by the way, I thought Schwarzer was a bit good for us, can’t believe we got him in the first place.

I really do think Lewis is excellent. I am surprised he has come to a league two club. I think the draw of being in a Hughes' team, a manager he knows and respects, is the only reason he is with us.
He seems to be enjoying it though. I hope we can hang on to him for as long as possible. Scouts will be watching.

Kamara brought players in who Bradford City fans wouldn't have a clue who they were some were hits some misses, from his early games you could see Schwartzer was going to be a very good keeper, Chris Waddell was sheer class, loved both Edinho and Stenier, did a great job when Lennie Lawrence got sacked and left Jewell with a decent squad to build on.

Looking at this squad and given Mark Hughes and Glynn Hodges experience I can only see us improving the more games we play. Saturday was a good example of how things are changing. We didn't really deserve to win that game, but we did. In recent seasons we would have lost that game easily, 1-3 or even 1-4. We've got more quality now , plus strong players who can come off the bench to tighten things up when we need to see out a game. I expected Yann Songo'o to leave but I am glad he didn't. He's unlikely to start many games, certainly not in midfield but he's a good player to bring off the subs bench, especially with the new substitution rules.

I think Lewis is even better than Pickford was for us. I know Pickford continued his progress elsewhere and has done very well to achieve England number 1 status, but he was very raw and nervous when he started with us.

Lewis would not look out of place in the Championship now. We will do very well to hold onto him beyond this season

I think he is, certainly the best "all rounder" with his distribution but I also know there's a debate and Ramsdale and Pope aren't a million miles away.

He deserves all the plaudits he gets. Great character, seems to genuinely love the club and great rapport with fans.

I think he is better than Pickford was for us actually.

One criticism, could he maybe command his box more at corners. Don't think the zonal marking does him any favours though

I think he’s better than Pickford was , forget age and future prospects for a minute. Man for man whilst playing at BCFC , he’s been slightly better than Pickford was. Additionally , he’s ours , and secondly he’s bought into the club “ ethos” and as a result become a firm favourite with the supporters, young and old. I could never get that with a loanee.

Areas for improvement, dealing with crosses perhaps?

Not a chance of that kind of fee. Our chairman would snap anyone's hands off for something approaching 3 or 4 hundred thousand.
