This is the opening up of the can of worms. As we know, our laws are open to subtle interpretation.

I agree. The reality is though, people are being sacked/attacked/forced to resign for not publicly supporting the BLM narrative. It would seem that some opinions are acceptable, some aren't. Its a very slippery slope, as you say.

I don't think they should be. Don't get me wrong, I find those sentiments disgusting - but they're morons. You can't have freedom of speech in slices, its all or nothing. But even with extreme views - as long as they're within the bounds of law and not inciting violence, don't deny them air time. Extreme views generally demonstrate how ridiculous themselves to be. Pushing extreme views underground just fans the flames.

What worries me though, is that we're not talking about extreme views being pushed underground. Even moderate views aren't being allowed. Or even no view at all - 'silence is violence' seems to be an idea that's being pushed. If you're silent, you're part of the problem and therefore racist by implication. Its a worrying trend.

Edin got good money for a broken Hanson. Swindled them Blades right up.

I think this is an excellent idea and would highlight slavery on a world level. Doing it now when the issue is paramount could force changes.

That's the big conundrum for me. I don't know whether it applies in this case or not but groups of all kinds on the extremes of society whether that's the far left, the far right, fundamental islamists or terrorists more generally all use a very similar tactic. And that's to promote an extreme ideology sometimes in unlawful terms and hopefully provoke a reaction from their opponents or better, the state. And then to sit back and wait for that response, hopefully a violent one, to prove their point or escalate matters.

There is a law which can be used which deals with incitement to racial or religious hatred. But whether the police choose to do so I guess isn't always a straightforward decision and there might be other means of dealing with it.

I'm not placing the WLM stunt in those terms (it certainly took money and a thought process to organise it) but there might well have to be some response which will then keep the broader issue in the media spotlight. Job done!

As I said in my original post, it won't just be the words on the banner that decide whether or not charges are made. I suspect that there will be a fair bit of digging into other material produced by the individual(s) involved, that will inform the 'intent'.

Exactly. Gestures don't do much, actions do. Real change, needs real action. As the saying goes, its easier to defend your principles than it is to live up to them.

I'd like to see it happen but it wont happen and never will happen. The dog wags the tail. not the other way round. The world of slave labour has been here since the dawn of man and will never go away. The rich will always be in pursuit of being richer and that doesn't happen by giving your workforce extra monies. Even at my level as a some trader I see it every day. Is a customer going to use me with my costs and taxes or use the guy being paid peanuts by a gang master. Its way more complicated than just paying people more money.

They'll be stopping my old age pension soon then, as they can't sack me, maybe they will make me resign from the committee of the Darby & Joan club.

The banner was not racist in as much
as it was a statement of fact.In the same
    context,Black lives matter.

It's the interpretation of what was meant
by it.People are deciding it's a racist gesture.
If the plane was hired, then the owners should
of asked the question "what is the motive behind
the message". If racism is involved, then all should
    be accountable and prosecuted!

One or two black players and ex players have made some very good points/comments with regards the BLM movement Micah Richards being a perfect example last night after the game.
Your comment with regards the coming World Cup in Qatar is very much a thing where the black players around the world could make a massive statement.
The thing is are they prepared to make that sort of statement to the world of football, it would be an interesting point for any football presenter to put that scenario to a black footballer, it could possible cost him his/her job but if that was the case Im sure the controversy caused by the sacking they would soon be reinstated.

A quick search of his Facebook account would show that it was intended to be inflammatory.

Why just the black players? Any player out there taking the knee should support the action and that would make the gesture stronger.

The problem is, that this "BLM" slogan, in my eyes, is deemed to be only used by blacks. I've heard reports of white protesters being talked down to for using the slogan. I hear a lot of black people in the media saying that we'll never know what it's like to be black (obviously). I hear that its only black guys who get stopped and murdered by the police (I think this is a bit of a sweeping statement), and I hear that all lives matter, but only if black lives matter first. What it's actually doing in my opinion, is dividing people who aren't racist, and making them a little bit racist, or exasperated by this whole thing. How do Chinese, Indian and the other Asians feel about this? I'm presuming they are not included as being black. It's making me feel guilty for not being guilty about stuff that happened 300 odd years ago.
This guy who flew the banner, was probably almost certainly doing it for provocation, but for sure, there's a lot of white people around who DO think their lives matter as much as black people, and are getting a bit fed up of questioning why they aren't allowed to say it.
Burnley of course have to take action, because if they don't, then they'll be accused of being racist and not thinking that black lives matter.

    "black lives matter first"
That part is very wrong. Very very wrong.

And with not being black and what its like i can kinda speak from personal experience.
you really don't know what its like to be a minority and i am jealous. My life is permanently shittier because of something i had no choice over. You've never had a random person tell you to get a wash at the age of ten while walking your dog just because of the colour of your skin. It sucks. We are the same. We bleed, we love, we cry. Yet we are treated differently.

There is quite a lot online about naming two people involved including copies of messages asking for donations towards the cost
