One poor game and everything is doom and gloom the fact is we are doing remarkably well given the injuries we have been carrying. Shrewsbury played very well in areas that mattered that’s why we lost

I'm not sure its total doom and gloom. I think fans are expressing a concern that as with Doyle, our tactics are turning a previously prolific goalscorer into a despondent looking workhorse

Shrewsbury didn't play well it was a poor game from both sides, a poor advert for lower league football. And if you bothered to read my previous posts i alluded to the fact that Bowyer is somewhat hamstrung with injuries. Fact still remains we are not getting the best out of certain players due to playing them in a role not best suited to them.

Ignore him mate. He's one of the golden oldies that has seen it all before. Not bothered about the direction of the club now because nothing matters to them. They proudly watched Bradford City win the FA Cup in 1911 and nothing can top that.

It is embarssing when team after team come to VP playing 2 up front and we at home only play a negative one up front, GB needs bigger balls

Shrewsbury were excellent where it mattered in midfield where they snubbed out Cooke and Pritchard which stopped us playing our usual game defensively we were good O’Donnell had very little to do. The only player out of position was Oteh who has played on the wing most of the time he has been here

And what about Vaughan? He might be in nominally the right position, but is the manner he is being asked to play bringing the best out of him and the team. I do accept though that on Tuesday night with the players available and Cook having an off night we struggled to create much.

We still created the best chance of the night and even had two bites to stick it away, that for me was the only difference to both teams, both poor on the night but they took possibly the only chance they made all night.

And that highlights the thread, and the result against Shrews, Dave.

THEY had a player in the right place at the right time, who scored from their one and only real true opportunity, whereas City couldn't / didn't. Also, as @Park bantam@Park bantam pointed out, Shrews snuffed out our initial supply line, the midfield - Not totally, but enough to ensure they left with the Win.

Spot on Trev. I've always been of the belief that generally the home team sets up to be more attacking. Unfortunately that's only happened a couple of times this season (coincidentally our best displays have come when playing 442 imo)

Shrewsbury were far from excellent mate, they were bog standard, just as they were in the first leg. They were there for the taking and GB couldn't master how to seize the opportunity hence we are out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle

Exactly. A decent side wins that game easily. Shrewsbury, as Bronco alludes to, had one effort on goal of any note. Hardly excellent is it. With a full compliment of players we may have won, at least it would have forced Bowyers hand to go with far more attacking substitutes.

I find it interesting that teams who have been going well as Shrewsbury have are suddenly poor when they play us the fact is Cooke and Pritchard have been the reason we are having a good season and they were snubbed out so in my opinion that is good play by Shrewsbury

True but 3 other managers couldn't get him scoring either.

tbh I didn't follow him in that much detail til he came here. I had thought he had spent a lot of time injured so was going on hearsay. But I can say he is starting to look despondent and and doesn't look the threat he did at the start of the season

While we are on it I would like to give a shout out to AOC. On Tuesday he was genuinely trying to play out from defence. He did get caught once after he had dribbled past 3 men but I think that was just an indication of how few options there were in front of him. Both he and BRE get accused of hoofball but a lot of the time there is just no-one showing for them.

That's a good call, Vaughan encouraged it too even though he lost the ball. It may have been due to Cooke, for some reason, having a really poor game that he felt like he had to try it more. I think that also shows confidence too, in both of them, that they feel they can bring it out from the back.

Shrewsbury made sure we couldn't play short to Cooke which is when we needed Akapn or Pritchard to step up to that role and sadly neither did so.

The fact we're all just accepting that Doyle will be rubbish for us and not score if he comes back is a damning indictment on Bowyer, his tactics, and ability to effectively manage players.,

I for one have never said that, in fact I said when it was bandied about that we needed to free up some money, at the time we didn't have cover (Otech was not signed by then but the deal may have been agreed with QPR) I never wanted him to leave so I'm more than happy to see him come back but if he does he the club will put massive pressure on the lad, imagine if he goes 3/4 games without a goal they will be crawling out of the wood work to call all concerned.
