GB (lack of) tactics

I'm happy with being in the automatic places but I understand where Leeds fans are coming from wanting to replace Bamford and I like Vaughan but he needs to be in the box more.

As for Liverpool Salah has 9, Mane has 9 the goals come from the forward line up mainly.

We've Vaughan on 5, Oteh on 3 then Akpan.. we know that Akpan and players like Devine on 1, Paudie on 2 are not going to be chipping in with that many more goals hence why fans are a little concern.

Yes, we did outclass the Swindon without Doyle but they're top of the league and with that strike force and more danagous than us at this moment.

 

We are talking about the league Fordy as I said in my earlier post, Salah has 6 and Marne 7. But anyway I’m not disagreeing I want to see our forwards score more, but don’t risk something that’s working to try get your forward a few more goals. He has to take responsibility, last few months we’ve created more good chances than the opposition, the players need to make sure we take them and keep them out the other end.

 

Basically, league or not I don't have confidence many of our squad chipping in with goals when it counts. Games we should win will be draws.

Donaldson won't score many, Oteh won't either. This is why we need Doyle can as clearly he can smash this league in terms of goals.

We're in a decent position and hopefully we will be in a decent position come Jan then we can bring back Doyle hopefully Donaldson and Devitt are back fit by then and maybe add one or 2 more quality to the squad so we can kick on.

 

Well yes obviously, but that was never the initial debate Mr Johnson/Corbyn. I don’t disagree with any of that last paragraph.

 

Good thread this. I’m personally not a fan of Bowyer, going forward we need to be working backwards from our best 11 and then moulding a formation that suits around them rather than any square pegs in round holes approach such as Doyle being shoehorned in early on.
442 with Reeves and Cooke (eventually), Pritchard and Connolly either side supporting two of Vaughan/Donaldson/Doyle(?)/Devitt (4411), is better than almost anything else in the division.

 

Bang on this. We seem to flitting between formations from game to game again, where it's been clear up to press, that weve had the most success when weve played 2 up front with wingers. Granted Vaughan might be missing Donaldson taking the hits, and holding the ball up, but playing him or anyone else as a lone central striker never seems to work for us so I cant see why GB even considers it!

Vaughan reverted to type last night, back to goal, dropping deep, trying to win flick ons that went to nobody and as if by magic, became completely isolated and ineffective. With this set up, neither Vaughan or Doyle would score goals.

We are clearly limited with options from the bench. We had no out and out striker to come on last night, our attacking options are incredibly short. For me we simply have to play with width, with wingers who can get beyond their man and supply crosses to a striker in the box facing goal. That's how we'll get the best from Vaughan, or any other finisher for that matter.

Hope to god he starts with 2 up top on Saturday otherwise itll be like watching porridge set again

One of the suggestions on the phone/text in after the game last night was why didn't he start a tall defender up front!! Imagine the fall out if that had happened!!!

 

Christ, it's sad that there's still people out there who think launching the ball upto a donkey is the only way to play football.

 

My guess it was either @Bronco or @RonnieBrown both stuck in the past and scared of change.

After they scored it was clear they were happy to defend and time waste. Shoving 3 or even 4 up top and going at them would have given us some hope of equalising, as it was we just meekly surrendered. Thats the bit from last night that really bemused me and GB has something to answer for with that double substitution. Neither Mellor or Devine are renowned for their attacking play.

 

Thing is mate, I am not saying Bowyer wanted us to lose but Cup runs when the aim is automatic is something that he might feel gets in the way.

We've injuries and players need rest.

It's a one of them - if we win fine but if we lose no bother as Plymouth on Saturday is more important.

 

In fairness, whoever suggested that should probably stop offering opinions.

 

Not sure, could be a consideration, would suit Bowyers style of play......

 

I thought we did far too much of that last night without Vaughan winning many meaningful headers.
