Not for the first time this season, GB's awful tactics and lack of a plan B have cost us. He is obviously a very good man manager, that is clear to see with the Reeves/Akpan/AoC/McCartan scenarios, but is that where his credentials stop? He is very questionable at times with what he is trying to achieve in a match and his apparent stubbornness becomes increasingly frustrating for the fans, especially on a baltic Tuesday night or a long away trip

This league is there for the taking this season, we aren't near the top due to brilliant performances. Let's be honest - we've been below par and misfiring in many games and the standard of teams this season is extremely poor, yet we are still in the mix. The only team I can honestly say that has impressed me as a solid footballing side was Cheltenham

Going back to GB, the formation deployed last night was dire. The players could see it wasn't working from the start and this fed through to their performance and morale, ultimately leading to grumblings in the stands. And as for the subs, well....let's just say that with 15/20 mins to go we at least had some creativity and attacking options on the bench in Reeves and Zeli - go 442, keep Oteh on and go for the jugular. But instead he fetches on Mellor, who continues to frustrate with his slow & laboured efforts, because GB thought doing the same thing at Shrewsbury caused them a couple of problems(!). They are a clever team Gary, and are not gonna fall for it twice! We were at home for gods sake, and it just smacked of negativity

Let's hope they put it right on Saturday

In fairness, plan B was a shift in formation and Oteh was brought off because he was injured. It clearly didn't work but tactically the system was altered.

One up front is generally boring me to tears though and I agree at times it is far too negative. Pritchard has gone off the boil and that means we aren't getting close enough to V Vaughan leaving him completely isolated and ineffective.

I'm growing increasingly concerned how this system has our strikers (whoever plays) walking off the pitch at full time having been given a couple of half chances at best.

I get most of that apart from about last night. Oteh went of because he picked up a knock but the Mellor sub was odd.

About the players could see the tactics/formation wasn't working - it was a pretty simple formation but I thought the players looked totally disinterested but I don't think this was a formation issue just a player issue. Cooke and Akpan were really poor, Pritchard below par, Henley and Oteh just not good. Zeli seems a little like Omar Daley in that if he doesn't fancy it then he totally ineffective.

We don't have enough options up front, Vaughan is lost - like Doyle last year. I would have liked Patrick to be on the bench as Reeves was never going to get a game with it being so cold (I know, I know), even put Anderson on up front for a bit more height/muscle than Connolly.

Not going to slate Bowyer as we are 3rd in the league and that's the be all and end all but we need additions in January and need to decide on Doyle pronto.

We sit in the automatic places but making hard work of this league.

My major concern is the lack of goals for our forwards and how he has them playing.

Luckily goals are being a little spread out at the moment but we all know you need your forwards firing.

Vaughan is struggling because it's like he's playing as a 10.

We do need Doyle back because Bowyer clearly has no faith in McCartan or Patrick no matter what he says about them.

@SteveC@SteveC what would you have done? That was a strong team last night.

McCarten would have played some part last night had he not been injured.

We are 3rd in a poor league and have not yet looked like the finished article. Could be worse.

Disagree I am not sure he would.

McCartan can't get into the team and I am not convinced Bowyer rates him.

Agree we're 3rd but now we need to really need to kick on.

Parkinson and McCall were always accused of not having a plan B, then Collins was praised when he changed systems on our first game that he won. I’m happy having a manager who knows what he wants, if you need plan B it usually means plan A was shite. Could be top next Tuesday cheer up, the ott reaction on the forum at times makes good reading though.

Whether he rates him or not he definitely would have played some part last night.

Any points won at Macclesfield next tuesday will most likely be taken off us before the end of the season as they go tits up...

Bowyer tries to create a plan B but makes a mess of it.

His plan A isn't getting the best out of his forwards.

What is Bowyer's play A anyway. We've had so many different formations so far this season.

For me though we're 3rd so let's not be too downbeat but Doyle has to come back and we still need one or 2 more players in Jan.

    Disagree.

How McCartan plays he should be perfect for Bowyer but he doesn't get a look in.

He's always injured.. put a folk in him he's done here.

Hit the nail on the head there our strikers could and should be scoring more
Its the system GB is playing that is not conducive to our strikers
Stick Doyle in the same formation and he wont score either by the same token would Vaughan score a hatfull at Swindon ??
We sit in the automatic because this is a very poor league
whilst the rest of the team are contributing a few goals and we stay in an auto place nothing will change

I know I constantly bang on about it but at home, without fail, I'd play 4 4 2.

We've had some decent results with the 4 5 1 / 4 3 3 but I still feel at times we look toothless and uninspiring. Our forwards, especially Vaughan, also get flogged every week for little reward and there's no way they'll get through playing that role without plenty of niggling injuries.

Totally agree - 442 everytime for me and play slightly more defensive away from home. Its simple and works in league 2.

Shrewsbury was a nightmare tie, lets be honest.

I thought we'd bow out in the first game, and while the replay was not ideal it was a credible effort.

Shrewsbury have a better side than us, it looks pretty strong on paper, and we'd need to improve to compete in the top half next year.

Add in that we were needing to significantly raise our game in the least glamorous of ties against a side that match our work ethic, and I feared the worst from the beginning.

I get it's disappointing, but it is what it is. No need to dissect Bowyers tactical leadership in my opinion.

I wouldn't class them as strikers. Patrick looks more of a wide man and Oteh I'm not sure what he is tbh.
