Gary Bowyer - when do we judge?

it's easier to settle on your favoured formation and personnel when you've got your whole squad fit to choose from.. we've currently got one fit left-back and one fit winger who was only signed yesterday. people crying out for 4-4-2 when we currently don't have the fit personnel to play that way.

people scream for width so bowyer adapts his side to be able to provide width the only way we can at the moment by playing a system involving wood and mellor as wing-backs. we've been out numbered in midfield for the past few weeks so playing 5 across the middle of the park meant we should've been able to control the game more and shouldn't have had the need to go long so much and play off the second ball dropping from vaughan and donaldson.

if only football was about what you did and didn't involve an opposition who play their own systems with their own tactics. it would be much easier that way.

 

Some would say pre-season started about ten games before the end of the last one.

 

We have 2 fit left backs actually Gary, one of them you signed, but now deem him nowhere near good enough to even make the bench

 

so, say longridge is fit but not match-fit and he starts and plays poorly - you'd be one of the first on here saying he's not got enough and shouldn't be playing, calling for him to be dropped. if we play 4-4-2, who are your central midfield two?

 

I've made a similar point before.

Play 3-5-2 and we look exposed at the back.
Play the diamond and we aren't as easy to break down but look toothless going forward.
Play 4-4-2 and we get overrun due to not having a midfield pairing that are good enough.

Our fans think the magic answer is changing the formation but I don't think it is. We've played several this season and have looked exposed in all of them, just in different ways. Bowyer has basically recruited in a way where no formation seems to suit the players we have.

It's now about damage limitation and 3-5-2 should only be used as a last resort.

 

Without doubt its getting harder and harder to defend Bowyer with performances like today.
1 - 0 up no need to chase the second goal stay solid and let them push forward to get back into the game, BUT the very thing Bowyer says he wanted in his side PACE is sadly lacking in this squad.

He's signed 14 players, if we don't have a decent midfield two to play then whose fault is that?

 

doesn't answer the question though does it. people demand 442 but nobody can suggest a central 2 that doesn't get dominated by the opposition at the moment.

The 442 system is better suited to our squad, and yes we have a weak midfield 2, he continues to play Akpan. He better find at least one before Monday. Otherwise we won’t be looking upwards and promotion that is for sure.

 

3-5-2 should allow for the wing-backs to get forward to give us plenty of width whilst the sitting midfielder covers the space they vacate if our attack breaks down.. unfortunately we don't have anyone disciplined enough to fulfil that role. devine could possibly do it but he might be too lightweight.

we've seen so far that if we play with a central two that they are overrun and can't control the game or ball from midfield, i think this is the reason bowyer is trying to play with a three in the middle. that means either dropping one of the back four and pushing a body into midfield or dropping one of the two forwards which he would also get slated for.

 

Can you suggest a central 3 that also doesn't get dominated?

He's signed 13 new players, and resigned 2 that were already here so either way, 14 is incorrect.

 

Fit, but not match fit, what does that even mean?. He has been here training all summer, played in the friendlies, including the Liverpool one. As I say, we have 2 fit left backs, and plenty of central midfield players to be able to select 2 from. If there are not 2 that are suitable, whose fault, other than Bowyer's is it.

Stop making excuses for him. He screwed up today, but incredibly in his post match interview, he said the formation worked!
