The players drove this mate mainly Jordan Henderson and James Milner. Taylor did nothing but create a problem.

Now it's over to Matt Hancock to deliver on his testing goal.

    Yep.

Good luck to Hancock, might I add, he's got his work cut out for him...

Yeah good luck to him and I hope he achieves it. 100k testing and currently we do around 10k testing. He has his work cut out for sure and if he doesn't achieve his goal then pressure will be on and rightly so.

From the players statement I did like this:

The players are mindful that as PAYE employees, the combined tax on their salaries is a significant contribution to funding essential public services - which are especially critical at this time. Taking a 30% salary deduction will cost the Exchequer substantial sums. This would be detrimental to our NHS and other government-funded services. Was this considered in the Premier League proposal and did the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock factor this in when asking players to take a salary cut?

    - I just felt Mart Hancock didn't answer the question good at all and I have heard how Maggie got involved in football back in the 80's which from what I hear I don't like. Government should stay out of sport and just concentrate on running the country. Hancock really just needs to put all his effort on the NHS and his 100k target right now.

Quite frankly Taylor, should have retired years ago. Someone stuck in 1970’s ‘Union’ (ish) politics. Created a job for a younger person with a fresh perspective (he should be in total social isolation given he is 75 years old). Allegedly on a £2.2 million salary. Also the PFA ‘may’ have been supporting his son. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/04/01/pfa-found-part-funding-organisation-has-paid-160000-gordon-taylors/
This is where football becomes an utter disgrace.

How many would you think at team like Liverpool employ non football employees 100/150 it does sound like penny pinching compared with other staff at the club.
Not having a pop at Premier League footballers as I'm sure many are helping out anonymously but to hear Gordon Taylor explaining if the players took a 30% drop in wages it would cost the exchequer X amount of money in non collected tax was quite amusing ;).

Owners worth billions and can’t pay wages or people probably only on around 500 a month.

Our owner is worth around approx 100m(cash or assets)

Look, I don't like clubs doing it but from a business point of view I understand.

Many more clubs will take the Furlough offer but yes most football clubs shouldn't be doing it including ours if truth be told.

The EFL has plenty of money, as does the PL.

Rather ironic @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam maybe they should have used Dodgy Dave's quote " we're all in it together" unfortunatly some more than others.
I'm sure once the world has beaten this virus the same will apply, the millionaires calculating how much Covid-19 has cost them whilst others look at their situation and their finances with regards how they rob Peter to pay Paul.

Also interested. By the tone of some of his words, I'd say he's a Northerner - possibly from the North East (refers to himself as "us"). Maybe Henderson, perhaps Milner a suggested above. Kind of ironic that the blacked out image used in the article looks like Kyle Walker!

Fordy give over. Comparing us to Liverpool is frankly laughable. They made a profit last season of nearly half of our owners whole wealth. In one year!!! The group who own them are worth billions!
They will probably make more from the champions league group stage than this club will in 5 seasons and they are furloughing staff? Absolute shocker and I hope people don’t forget this.

They have a history of questionable antics yet are still loved by the media. Suarez saga on two occasions. Attacking teams buses etc
