Big opportunity for you to cash in on some extra business at the car wash. Buy loads of fuel and then sell it at 10P a litre more than you bought it for. You can have that one on me.

Well, there is a shortage, after all, it doesn't matter if you have enough fuel at the depots, if you don't have enough drivers to get them to the petrol stations then there is a shortage. And the oil companies were prioritising which stations would be getting petrol and who wouldn't because they haven't been able to deliver to them all (And as someone whose Dad used to work in the Oil industry, specifically the logistical side I can tell you that even when there aren't driver issues they operate on more of a just in time basis for refilling stations supply rather than trying to keep them full as much as possible)

Ofc by having to take the actions of prioritising which stations get refilled it's made it worse. When we have a world that's so connected if some stations shut because they don't have supply it spreads like wildfire and causes panic.

This is going to become more common though. Even without Brexit and covid having an impact Europe has had an HGV issue for decades. Numbers have been falling all across Europe year on year and not enough has been done by any country to try and turn that around. The current perfect storm of situations has just brought it into to everyone's attention

That should be illegal at any time let alone in times like this. Filling up your tank is one thing but the only reason for anyone to need to fill up even 1 jerry can is if you have run out of fuel and need to take it back to your broken down car

Online mate. I went to pick some decking up this morning and one petrol station down Manchester Road had around 5/6 cars waiting in line in the inside lane to get onto the forecourt, then passed another on Canal Road and there must have been 20 or so waiting to get onto the forecourt.
I'll wait until Monday when people have gone back to work and take my chance at my local Morrison's.

You need to think about being less judgemental. There are legitimate reasons for filling up a green petrol can other than having run out of petrol. For example, I fill up my own petrol can with E5 every 2 or 3 weeks during spring and summer to power my mower, strimmer etc and the othe garden equipment. Maybe that should be made illegal in your world?

So your mower takes multiple jerry cans does it? That's complete bullshit and you know it

Please don't misquote me. I said I fill up my petrol can (singular) every 2-3 weeks for all of my garden equipment. You on the other hand said the only legal reason for filling up a petrol can was because the car had run out of petrol. That just isn't the case. Just admit you over exaggerated the point.

I said doing what that guy was doing should be illegal, which is why I made the point about the legitimate reason for filling up a single one

This government have royally screwed up, it was on the news that Tesco have 800 hgv delivery driver vacancies.

They sold us brexit but are letting us down badly, more illegal uk wannabes getting on dinghies than ever, and not enough delivery drivers and various other key job roles. No trade deal with the us despite our ‘special relationship’ , food and other prices likely to go up because they will now need to pay the drivers more.

A real cluster ****. Thanks Bojo.

I'm sur these petrol stations have the ability to make the pumps cut out when a certain amount has been delivered. Easy short term cure.

Apparently the HGV industry is largely to blame. They were aware that the have driving population was aging, but haven't planned properly to replace them on time. That was from someone at the National Hauliers Association

Just driven up from North of Exeter. There is a bridge replacement job on the M6 J10-8, so diverted off round Dudley and Wolverhampton ( a nightmare of a journey). I went past several filling stations. No queues! Reason is that they have sold out and are closed. Spotted a small independent, open at £1.50.9 a litre, it still had a small queue. Stafford Services was even more at £1.59.9!
Called in at the local supermarket to get some food, again the service station was closed, no fuel.
Thankfully l got home and according to the tank measure, have 175 miles until empty.
So the reality is that wether it is ‘fake’ news or not, the fact is that at the petrol pumps there is a shortage. Now some may not think this is a ‘crisis’ but if you need or indeed want to travel, then you may find it exceptionally difficult to get fuel.
Final thing. Beer! Went to a pub in Devon last night, down to one beer! Now that is a crisis!

You have to wonder when the gov are talking 100,000, even taking the EU drivers out that number is horrendous.

It's not funny at all now, ambulances have run out of fuel and taxi firms are unable to operate. Many people won't be able to get to work.

Anybody getting extra petrol knowing what we know now is downright selfish and are an absolute disgrace.
